Hi guys,

I haven't run TW in years so I'm throwing up a fresh game on my servers. The address will be vm.braintoys.org and the game will open Sunday at 2:00pm Pacific Time.

9999 Sectors
5000 Turns
4 Planets per
5 Per corp

Only ship edit is the Dreadnought can carry more Figs.
Citadel times every so slightly reduced by a day or two here and there.
K Planet can hold a little more ore.

Dedicated server.

you have productioin set to 15% tho, and movement set to THIRD

looks like your limited on players , no more nodes available
What is this a 4 node server ?

if you can open it to about 30 or 40 players , you will get more players.

I'm all ears. What should those 2 settings be? Worth changing even though the game started?

Unless you just have friends online or get an agreement with all (not a majority) players, I would not change any settings after a game has started. Typically most competitive players don't want any delays of any kind (rob, move, eprobe). Delays just simulate a laggy server IMHO.

One thing I would recommend is that unless you have a reason for it, don't age the game 90 days...

It makes it 50 experience points each port you visit, which makes it hard to stay fedsafe.

Again, probably not wise to change now that the game has begun. Lesson learned.

Also, death delay is off and that makes for unlimited mothing of planets. I cby'd on that part.

Skull I tried to get in and play, we had a couple people show to start a corp. I can live with the ping.

But something on your server is causing some terrible lag, could not even get a ZTM.....kept dieing. I was playing on Ice 9 at the sametime and was getting pings in the 160 /170 range. So I figured I would try from work, same results. Sorry no can play with those numbers, good luck and it is good we have new servers starting to pop up.

I got out as well, the lag was just too much, along with the move delay, was taking forever to get turns used. So, feedback:

- Production rate was 15%.. make it like 80-200% the percent represents the time it takes to return the port to 100% ( really, a day is plenty; 100% (

- Move delay; well, this is a 'global' setting iirc, so each game on your server will have a move delay. This tends to slow the game down, and exaggerates the difference in movement speed of ships/planets. Early, not too big a deal, but as soon as citadels start coming around...trouble!

- Death delay; another sysop choice, but if it is off, peeps can set up endless mothing of planets, or CBY cashing..both make the game no fun at all..

I don't mind the ship/planet edits, as stock is ok with me..heck even the movement delay is ok, if you want to try to make it a server standard.

I met some interesting cats, and had a pretty good time, but it was getting too late for me last nite, and looked like the game was half ruined as it was, with prom and the ice-9 crowd cby'ing...

The lag and/or movement delay was just getting to be too much. It should not take 10 minutes + to PPT non upgraded port pairs... If you were to bang another game, maybe speeding things up a bit, that would be fine. Personally, I do not mind the slower port regen, a lot of my games have 20-25%... deciding things like that helps determine how long the game will last, quicker port regen/citadel building times tend to have pretty quick games, while 15% and standard citdal build times make it go slower, which is fine too.

Oh another thing, if you want to enter the game, the best way to do it is create an observer account for you to use. You do that by going into TEDIT, adding a new player from the player list, and set the observer flag to Y, and then logging in.

Cool. I approached this forum as a sysop noob and asked for a list of settings which could make the game unplayable to try to avoid a bang like this. Seems I failed. :) At least now I have all the feed back to hopefully correct it.

I will fix the issues and rebang. I'll post a new opening start time later today.

Thanks for the healthy feed back. I'm so use to everyone in a forum ripping sysops a new one for even trying. I'll adjust and try again. :)
