 New Sysop, New Bang
Hi Gents,
I am putting up a TWGS Gold server I haven't used in years!
I just wanted your opinion. Is there a more general standard set of settings most TW players tend to prefer? I wouldnt mind having a handful of interested people play.

 Re: New Sysop, New Bang
TWGS Tedit option screen H option zero : Interactive Sub-prompts to Yes. For some reason when J.P. made defaults he had it set to No.
Most players like it set to Yes. Also most players want a server to run as fast as it can.
This means all delays set to off and as much data pushing through as the server can handle. Meaning Rob/Steal set to no delay , Max commands , no ship delay or eprobe delays.
If you have more questions feel free to contact me by ICQ or on voice on Team Speak vulcansforge-online.net:8767 Room : Trade Wars
I hope this helps. Btw also make yourself a signature with your server address to help players locate your server here on EIS.

 Re: New Sysop, New Bang
Some serious good advice from Vid!
Also, to help players plan ahead, try to give a couple days warning that you are 'banging' or opening new games. This gives time to coordinate a good game start.
I think this is something that all sysops should pay a bit of attention to...*cough, hint*
Also make sure your game list is as descriptive as possible, and oh yeah, if possible, allow multiple sessions by the same IP. Some of us like to play multiple games on a server.
Thanks for making your server available!

 Re: New Sysop, New Bang
Good advice guys, thanks!
I definitely advertise a few days ahead of time.
What about things like..
sectors? terra starting / regen speeds?
I'm totally out of the loop so some actual setting suggestions are greatly encouraged and appreciated.

 Re: New Sysop, New Bang
Different sysops like different things and so do players. All I can tell you is what I normally do. I'll fill Terra one time and set it to the maximum regen. Ports I usually set at 100% or 200% daily depending on the type game I want. Port regen per visit I always set at 100%. I run no delays at all. I don't like time limits, but many do, so that is a matter of preference. I also usually close any game that's over 2 weeks old. I like photons to be part of the game, so I almost always have them available. There are tons of available edits (TWA game files) out there to chose from both turn games and unlimited turn games. You'll just have to check them out to find the ones you like. The main thing is the DON'TS 1) Don't bang games before the game is over if it is active. 2) Don't play around in tedit after a game starts. 3) Don't make rules you can't enforce. 4) Don't advertise a date/time for a bang and forget it. (As I did recently. lol) 5) Don't provide a part time server (Too much down time will drive players away)
