What we have now is a case of spambot-itis. There are scripts that search for vulnerable phpBB forums, automatically create dozens (if not hundreds) of accounts over multiple IPs and email addresses, and post crap to them trying to get links to bump up a google ranking. The way to solve this is to muck up the user reg process a little by changing the captcha, adding a required hidden field and adding something like "the humanizer" which is a little plugin that alters the user reg page a little to mess up automation. Unless you guys do something the problem is only going to get worse as more bots find this site. |

I've temporarily fixed this problem by turning new user registrations on admin activation only....This will make it a little more work for me but i dont mind. I'll be contacting the GodFather of TW to solve it further. |

I had the same problem on some of my forums a while back. There are a number of good scripts that can be modded into the PHPBB forums that eliminate spambots from being able to complete registrations successfully. |

Please get these spambot's under control, the stuff in Scripts forum is raunchy as hell. This thread might also warrant a migration to Forum Announcements IMO. |
