Unread post
About time, right? Life has been hectic for me for a long time and I haven't had any spare time to spend on my first love and hobby, programming. Now, I finally do.

So, I have posted an update to the TWGS Game Settings Exporter (in the same place as always, http://twgs.xiuhtec.com/) which has corrected formatting for this forum. People who still have the old one installed can just download the EXE and overwrite the old one and it'll work fine, saving some download size. If there are any other forums frequently used for bang announcements, let me know here and I'll consider adding a formatting setting for them as well.

I hope to also have the time to resume work on the data access library itself and add things like information on gold edits (which due to popular demand is likely to be the next thing I work on). The main issue I see possibly happening with gold edits is simply the sheer amount of data that will be present and how best to format it for posting on a forum like this. If anyone has any ideas, now's the time for input!

Sample output from the new update (inactive games, obviously from some of the dates listed):
Code:
Xentropy running Xentropy's TradeWars Gold on TWGS version 3.13
telnet:\\tw2002.no-ip.org:2002
20 nodes; multiple simultaneous logons from a single IP are NOT allowed.

tried to download the exe only, gave an error, may need to look at it.

BTW: Thanks for getting the new one out, I know you have had a hectic time as well, and the appreciation is real, we needed that, thanks, does it still work with the snitz setup too? Just curious. Anyway good work Xen.

LOL I just went to a random text file to use as the description file as a sample.  In real cases it'd display the first five lines of the descfile in that position.

Sorry, but what is Snitz?  If that's another forum software, I'd appreciate it if you'd post a link to that forum (and a phpbb one as well, since you showed interest in that in the other post) so I can sign up and look at the forum codes and test things out and such.
What error did you get running the exe?  It's possible there was a library update in the, erm, past two years LOL which would have made the full setup necessary.  Did you try the full setup and the error went away?  If so I'll pull the exe.

Snitz was what the old EIS site was under.your last program worked with that setup, if the program still works with that setup as well then it willl be worth its weight in gold, especially when it woks wiht php. My forum is in phpbb, but there are other php forums out there so it should work with them as well if it works with phpbb.

Thanks Xen for the program.

Well, in making changes for it to work with this forum, I'm sure it broke things with the old setup.  I'm not concerned, however, unless there is still a Snitz forum around that is being actively used by a lot of people.  I don't want to add functionality for every little board a few people visit; it'd be more time effective just to support the most popular forums.  I know the community seems to want to split into 50 pieces lately and more forums are popping up than are needed, but I'd like to bottom out on the top one or two and support those.  Where do the real people go to look for bang announcements?  That's my goal.
I know Jumpgate is going to remove most of the reason for my program to exist, though.  That's part of why I wondered if it was still even needed.

I think most of the other forums are PHP forums if that helps.
And at the rate things are going, who knows if Jumpgate will ever come to reality, at least mainstream.  I'm not gonna jump on it right away, till I've seen it prove it's self

Added the gold ship edits to the library.  Next up, gold planet and aliens.
Here's the output of an unedited game as proof of concept to confirm it's reading data correctly...  As you can see, make and model names output the raw color codes; they can either be processed or stripped as desired.  There's a LOT of ship information, so figuring out how to best format it for forum posting will be challenging.
Edit: Removed to shorten the length of this thread.  See post 15 for a much better data layout.

I posted this in your bang forum, but figured I'd say it here as well.

Your forum software does not handle color tags between code tags, nor does it allow for manual font setting to choose a fixed-width font in any way other than using code tags.  That means the only way for the data to look good is to forego color on your board.  The best way to do that is to use the % option in my program to turn off EIS formatting and copy and paste the raw text data, manually putting code tags around it.  I posted a sample on your board.

There were a bunch of settings in the output I didn't recognize. I don't really plan to out put to a forum, I plan to use just a text file so the formatting should be easy. I just want to be able to read it easily. laff

Even raw, your data is most helpful, thanks for all of this work

Stuff you maybe didn't recognize since they weren't in your listing:
HldVal¨DriVal¨CmpVal¨HulVal - Base values of holds, drive, computer, and hull, which combines to purchase price.  Could easily just display the total, as the individual values aren't that important.
CbtR¨CrgR¨TrsR¨SctR - Combat, Cargo, Transport, and Scout ratings as listed in Tedit.  (As in Combat II, Cargo I, Transport II, Scout I or whatever.)  Not really very important values, and they're just automatically calculated based on the other settings anyway. I was a tad surprised to see them stored in the data file instead of just calculated on the fly.
Dply - Deployment mode.  0 = General (buyable at Stardock), 1 = Alien (used by gold aliens), 2 = Manual (only addable to the game manually)
Prvs - Pod provisions.  Doesn't seem like a used field (everything is 0 and there seems to be no way in tedit to change it; I haven't tried manually writing other values to the file to see if it does anything).  Supposedly 0 = minimal, 1 = partial, 2 = fully loaded, and affects how many figs/shields the pod starts with for that ship.
CbtSn - Has combat scanner, the thing that tells you the % shields on the target when attacking with certain ships.
Guard - Planetary guardian, the Tholian Sentinel ability setting.
Xchng - Can be exchanged, by default true for all except the ISS and CFS.
Pirat - Pirate flag.  It's false for all ships and I honestly don't think it's even a used flag.  If it is used, it's not settable in Tedit, and I'm not sure what it'd do if manually set true.
Fusin - Has fusion drive.  Ships with a fusion drive drop in value more slowly per port than ones without, I believe.
Dfnct - Defunct flag.  Only true for the ailen derelicts by default.  Basically the reverse of the "Funcitonal" setting in Tedit.  Defunct ships are usable by aliens only and if captured cannot be transported into, only towed and sold at Stardock.
Uniq - Unique.  Only one of this ship can exist in the game.  Only true for the Ferrengi Scorpion in default settings.
Edit: Oh there's one more setting in the file that I even forgot to put into the test output above, "warp density".  It's just zero for all ships and I think it's another unused field.  Can store an integer value from zero to quite large.  Another one to mess around with once I add write support to the library and can test things out.

I posted this in your bang forum, but figured I'd say it here as well.Your forum software does not handle color tags between code tags, nor does it allow for manual font setting to choose a fixed-width font in any way other than using code tags.  That means the only way for the data to look good is to forego color on your board.  The best way to do that is to use the % option in my program to turn off EIS formatting and copy and paste the raw text data, manually putting code tags around it.  I posted a sample on your board.

The way you done it in my forum will work fine, thanks. the color doesn't matter, as long as the format is easier to read than everything running down in a straight line. Thanks Xen.

Just testing my color code parsing. (The forum can't do background colors but if I at least approximate the foreground colors of the ships I'm happy.)
