Hi everyone, yet another old timer retuning!
Last time I played TW was when JP was looking to do a remake (I loved his vision of it, but didnt like how TW:R ended looking).
Now its time, once again to get back to the source.

I've did a bit of search over the board, and if I put together all the little bits of information spread over dozens of thread, it seem the general consensus for what is "must have" is someting like:
TWX Proxy
ZOC 4.xx
SWATH (or your prefered GUI + map helper)
Is this it? did I get it right?
And why is there no sticky on recomended "TW Client" for newcomer anyway?

Yeah, it's taken me a while to get this all figured out too coming back after an 8 year leave. I started with just Zoc, because that I remembered and could write a few simple macros. You're going to need a telnet client of some sort in order to use TWX, does not have to be Zoc or Swath, but those are popular.
Now what happens is TWX runs in your task bar. You setup Zoc and Swath to connect to localhost port xx. Set-up TWX for the server name, address, port and universe size. Then TWX makes the connection to the game. Swath will run Zoc and TWX scripts but I've found that process to be a little slower. So I keep Zoc and Swath open at the same time and toggle to whichever is going to give me what I need. GUI maps in Swath, ppt in Swath - I use a TWX scripts, and what those two don't have, I've written a few things in Zoc that I like to use.
Oh yes, then there's Mombot. This is a collection of TWX scripts, mainly offensive, defensive and as the name suggests, allows your corpmates to "bot" your turns with commands over sub-space. You do the the option to password your Mombot so they cannot "bot" you, and you still have those scripts at your disposal. You can download TWX scripts and Mombot at
www.navhaz.comThese are probably 10 to 20 times more scripts than we had in our helpers back in the 90's, so just the basic come-with there's a lot to learn. Then there are a handful of individuals who write custom TWX scripts.
Welcome back!
