not sure if earlier post made it, here it is again. just loaded ubuntu linux 9.10 (win xp / swath / twx was crippling my memory/cpu), and downloaded Kokua 0.7. Doc's are pretty weak with Kokua, so of course i had problems getting it going. Here is what i did: 1.) created a Kokua dir. at /home/"username"/kokua/ ... and extracted all Kokua files to that dir. 2.) created a launcher for my desktop, but, when i browsed the command path... no main class Kokua could be located... no main executable file. Ran over the same ground a few times, tried a command line setup with no results. I need some help here.. my linux knowledge is scant at best, although i can understand some. Could someone walk me thru this load and setup... I am interested in running linux and kokua for a couple months to check it out. |

Swath runs under wine. It's actually sorta stable if you give it a desktop. |

hi Sing. ... i thought of wine/swath as well, but kokua runs in linux, so would only have to run twx in wine or vmware. I read that kokua has a greater emphasis on data mining and that is an area i would like to dig into. So.. back to the original... "sure would appreciate direction, on this one" btw... ubuntu linux 9.10 is "way cool" software and ya can't beat the price! Wish more peep's would jump onboard. |

Never used kokua, mostly because of the map, but also because of the java. All you have to do is download the .jar file and run it. java -jar kokua.jar If you have the full package, it's in the dist directory as "kokua-0.7-standalone.jar" so you'd extract that and run... java -jar kokua-0.7-standalone.jar That'll run it, provided it runs under the current version of java. Last update was 2007, looks like the project is dead. As for twxproxy, you'll have to do that anyway. It's not like you can just run kokua and do away with twxproxy. You'd be doing away with practically every modern script out there. |

It states right on the Kokua web page it's not ready for public/real use. You should just call it good and toss it. |

yup... that's just what i did EleqTrizit. Back up and running XP Just a side note... all the trouble i had with XP occurred when i perfomed latest upgrades at microsoft. Rebooted my machine and could not access windows... so, i reloaded XP off the cd, but got error msgs. saying certain files on the disk were unreadable. The disk is in pristine condition. Wonder if Win7 is selling fast enuf... or are we (the public) being herded and pushed into buying? They did it with win98... no support for that... is winXP being actively culled ??? aaahhh... i am probably paranoid. |

Shrug. Win 7 has it's ups and downs. If you're happy with XP, then stick with XP. The biggest driver for an upgrade will be new hardware, win 7 64bit can use more than 4gb ram and supports new directX versions. XP does not. If you have XP it'll run beautifully in virtualbox. It's a bit messy when there's a lot of scroll, but if you run swath in wine and twxproxy under virtualbox you'll actually end up a little faster than native XP while still keeping a stable twx. |

You didn't think windows 7 was really 4 gigs, did ya? At least 3gb of that is Bill's secret porn stash. |
