TWScripter / The Mac Helper ("Player Package" now available)

Hey everyone, I've played TW since I ran a BBS back in the early 90's and now I play TW on a Mac. I've used TWScripter since 2003. It's a great little mac helper and with the help of some powerful custom scripts made by Cbs228 back in 2004 and a few other scripts I've modified and such - its a load of fun. There is a learning curve for sure, and I'm not trying to convince people to use it, but it's a good choice if you really really want to play on a Mac.

So I notice a couple times a year or so someone comes around looking for a mac helper. It's been a long time since the TWScripter app project has been active and even if someone found the app, without the custom scripts it doesn't really compete with other helpers out there. Cbs haven't been active in TW in a few years either and I didn't want his scripts or the application to fade away and be lost forever.

To solve that I created a little project called the "TWScripter Player Package" This package basically combines the app itself, the scripts and bot created by Cbs228 and other scripts i've been using into one downloadable file. It also includes various instructions on how to use Cbs's Bot, a hot new icon for the app and fun stuff like that.

I got the ok a while back from the author of TWScripter and the app itself is still owned and copyrighted by him. This is just basically a fan project that revolves around the existence of his app.

The goal here is to add to the overall TW Community and over time, capture the interest of other Mac users who might contribute to the project and add their own scripts and additional features. To facilitate this I created a Google Code project that has all the scripts and additional hottness in SVN so others can checkout the code and contribute directly to it. As-needed I can package up those additions and improvements into new versions of the ZIP file available for download. Who knows, maybe it'll even spark the development of a new Mac helper someday.

you can download the zip file there in the downloads tab. and view and checkout the SVN source.

I set up a little website: http://www.twscripter.com and twitter account: http://twitter.com/twscripter
for some exposure to help people searching for an Apple / Mac helper. =)

Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/twscripter
for in case people start firing ideas off each other or have questions about how to best use the bot or scripts

thanks all!

Sounds very nice, and will hopefully bring some more players in that run on Macs.

Cbs228 built one of the most powerful bots for TW2002 while he was a HS student and is still willing to help out with Mac users. If you want to get in contact with him ICQ me at 427-870-230 and I'll try to set you up with a link to him with his permission.

Yeah Cbs228's bot and the instructions for it are actually included in this package. It's pretty awesome. He and I have been chatting about this project recently - good stuff.
