 Ping Checks
Here is a strange thing :
my ping with ck's ping check in lower then my ping check with Promethius's ping check.
shouldn't they be the same ?
And if they are different by a long shot , who's do you believe and how would players compare unless they use the same script ?

I would run Rev's, ck's and mine and see if two of them show close to the same. The number of pings I use is higher to get a better (IMO) sampling and possibly encounter a slow or faster ping. I've tested against both and all were very close.

Dumb question: Why use a script to ping instead of DOS like God intended?

 Re: Ping Checks
It is possible to achieve precision to the millisecond with getTime, using a syntax like this: getTime $time1 "ss zzz"
It is possible to achieve higher precision using getTimer, but that is overkill for ping times. Still, ping routines can vary greatly if they are not using the same technique.

 Re: Ping Checks
well Rev.. are u talking Zoc to server or Zoc to twx to server... if another program is in the middle, I would think it would add a few millisecs
now what causes it could matter not just connection... your programs running, specially those backgrounds ones, most peeps don't know how to stop from loading... cpu .. Zoc sends to twx program then to server, back through twx, back to Zoc... sorta like an extra jump point.. with a possible bottleneck in there.
and btw.. I prolly still got the slowest Ping around...lol

Well, have to admit, you are one of the very few that I know that can seriously script for Zoc It was your scripts that got me started with Zoc, and the desire to write scripts such as those kept me in the game. I never did reach what I would consider a proficient level in REXX.

 Re: Ping Checks
Rexx is a bit cumbersome, IMO, esp w/ o a database backend. It is, however, faster than TWXproxy on the complicated stuff.

 Re: Ping Checks
I would say that that very much depends on what complicated stuff you're speaking of. The few times Rev and I have paralleled scripts in the respective languages, performance has been a wash. There are certainly bottlenecks in TWX, but DB queries for example are very quick, and so on the whole I speculate that most scripts perform similarly.
Haha, I think the last was that Unified Bubble Theory script that takes 2 secs on TWX. I'm totally teasing you. Or am I?
