Ok, I've been waiting for weeks for someone better suited to ramrod this, but it has fallen to me to try. +EP+ has a ton of information that he is willing to share if we can organize a bit.
He has found an excellent, free, online medium that we're (you & me) gonna test out this weekend. Information on the system is at https://www.webhuddle.com/
I'm going to start an online session today at 5 pm central standard. My knowledge of scripting consists of; I use 'em, I've seen under the hood (using ConText, btw do a search) and I wanna do my own. But I have a zillion questions...
Join me at 5pm today; Discussion name: Script Discussion Test Password: spamfree
I'll also do another test session tommorrow; 6-4 time tba..
I'll be online for 30-60 min. babbling about nothing really, drop in and harrass me. If it works well, we'll let +EP+ know, and we can have an official class.

Any comments or even a better suggestion, let me know. It's a beautiful day out, my corpies are obviously out enjoying it, or I'd test this w/ them. All my contacts are out playing, that's why I'm putting this out to the Eisonline forum community. Fer now, i'm goin' out an playin' too...

j/k ladies, kidding...not really. Seriously, the software pretty flexible, share-your-desktop, or parts of it and if you speak up into your mic, you can do a crackely voice. It has potential, and I aim to try it again tonite at around 10 cst.

well, one session was just me and a dupe I logged in with from a different computer. The 10pm session Vulcan joined me and we tried a number of different things out:
1) the desktop sharing and chat functions on the webhuddle were excellent. We were able to show each other portions of files, pics, our dynamic swath screens, etc. Very useful
2) the sound was just in and out. We both tried a number of things to help, but we couldn't get the sound to work reliably.
3) we ended up using icq to 'talk' and using the webhuddle to 'show and tell' stuff. The bad thing about this is the show and tell and written questions recorded, but not the voice (pretty important)
The recording of the session was actually great, woulda been better if some voice had made it into the recording, but we had to shout!
I think it was pretty easy to log on to the session, but we are still looking for a smoother medium. And really, maybe we ARE overthinking this; a chat room may be the easiest solution.

Thanks for your time,
Crosby

I recall reading awhile back about setting up mics that in the sound settings you should have the mute box checked, the volume all the down? (or maybe it was up?), and the decibel boost enabled. If maybe that could be the problem? Also you should not have active speakers around the mic otherwise feedback occurs.

I was using my Altec Lansing head set with mic, and it is a real sensitive mic, and had the settings set where I usually have it for Team Speak and for my IM talks and had to shout to be heard on the web huddle, other than that it is an okay setup.

Agreed, Skype is great, but we'll have more than 5 ppl, and it needs to be recorded. So not applicable. :(

How about a chatroom and log the conversation? Not sure if the log can be sent to those who miss the discussion. Anyway, it might be a start, until, something better is thought of. JMHO NaS-T

Maybe test it w/ another person or a few more people who also known that their mics are also known to work good, just to make sure it is not a hardware problem, possibly on Crosby's side? Unless this is a reported or ongoing problem w/ that software, but I would think that it should work fine otherwise why would anybody even want to use it if they have to keep shouting at one another. I would hope it is just a lame ars hardware issue, a incompatiable driver, bad installation, bad or missed connection, program settings not correct, etc.

the program is online and in a website, the audio came and went a lot, but that may have been issues with the server it is on too. Like we said other than that it was a good place for the lessons. We can test again, if others are willing to show up for another test soon. Crosby you set a time, I am home after 6 pm eastern time.

I would love to be a part of that conversation as well. I work during the week but I could help test or whatever is needed on Saturday. I have a mic that i know works well and God knows i need to learn to write scripts (sorry to all I've been a pest to about scripts). Hopefully I can help in some way!

I'd be more than happy to test this again... We really didn't give much notice last time. I think the mic prob was on their end, as we switched to icq, and conversed w/ no real problem. That may be a workaround, but I think we want a stable, easy to use platform that is completely integrated.

So let's try another session say; Friday night at 8pm cst. That'll give everyone enough time to plan ahead. We can chat about scripts we'd like to author, and maybe get a wish list of topics.
So Friday at 8 central; click http://www.webhuddle.com
Click the 'Join a meeting' link
Enter your email
Enter your name/handle
Enter your hosts email: crosby@aircav.com
Enter the password: scripting

No software to load or install, just a web based connection, you don't really need a mic, just speakers. Log on in and give us a test listen.

As always, thanks for your time,
Crosby
