What the heck is the CIM menu? Looking through the features of ATTAC here.

CIM, computer interrogation mode, lets you pull up a list of the sectors you've visited, their warps and the ports you've visited and their current status. Ports will not show up in a CIM if they are blocked by enemy fighters, so you can use that to "hunt" for enemy activity.

In a normal game, without attac, you just hit ^? (in that order) to bring up the CIM and a list of commands you can do. Attac will do a port§or CIM for you, parse the results and feed it into various parts of the helper database. Useful for a handful of things.
