Hey all. I just started playing Tradewars again after god knows how long (last time I played was when _I_ was running a BBS back in the early 90s).

Anyway, I was hoping to find a good client (so I don't have to use plain old telnet). Being able to record macros would be nice, but I'm not (yet) hardcore into scripting or anything. On the other hand, if the client were compatible with scripting in the future, that would be great.

Thanks all!

Welcome back!

I would recommend SWATH and TWX Proxy.

Swath isn't free, but I think it's got a 30 day trial. TWX proxy is free, and there are tons of public scripts available for it.

You can also check out ZOC and/or ATTAC is you don't like SWATH. ZOC is shareware, and while it's not specifically for Tradewars, it does support macros and REXX scripts. ATTAC is another TW Helper. I personally don't have much experience with ATTAC, but many people swear by it.

I would also recommend you visit the following sites:

http://www.grimytrader.com (for TWX Proxy support, public scripts, and script help)

Awesome, thanks for the input and the welcome. :) Can't wait to get my feet wet again.

Of course, by getting my feet wet, I mean getting my ship blown to pieces repeatedly by those much better than I, until I regain some level of mediocrity. :)

Personally I would go with the zoc4.10/twx2.03 combination.... It lacks the visual map capability of SWATH but makes up for it in other datamining areas using Revhelper and a few other scripts...also is fairly flexible for assigning macros to F-keys and if needed remapping keyboard for a few things.... Since you used to tun a BBS ZOC might appeal to you as it was not originally intended to be a TW helper but was written as a 'mini-host' (ie a sort of BBS format in many ways)....

ZOC414 and TWX202/203

Sigh...not knowing the game or pointing blame that might been lesson number 1? Figure out how to avoid getting podded? Have ICQ2003b installed and leave private messages to others requesting ICQ addies and then connect with those who might help out...help with scripts, new tactics, etc? [?]

If you are a team player (or even a solo player from two locations), i would recommend a TWXSync compatible helper with TWXSync Server. What this means is... if all your teammates have a compatible helper, all your information is automatically and immediately sent to all your teammates. No need to send cim files or clear their busts manually.
Currently, ATTAC and SWATH are compatible.
