I'd been told that bursting via $b<your mac here> was the fastest way to do things. If that's true, then a scripted burst would be the best thing for time critical parts of the script. ie. undock/xport/dock or Pbusting. But in the bursts "*" is used to substitute the enter key. But in TWX scripts, it's also used as the enter key. Is there a way to send a $b burst from a script?

I believe this question was asked on the TWX support forums some time ago, and the answer given there was no. There is no way to access the TWX menu via a TWX script, though it can be done with macros. So unless the new version allows this, it's not possible to do. If I'm wrong here, PLEASE let me know, since its something I've wanted to do myself.

My thoughts only, but the burst command is basically for on-the-fly situations - write the burst to meet the current need. A scripted burst, and I may be very wrong, would be something similar to "m456*y y ps" - just a string of commands sent with one send command.

It might be possible to do from a script run in your helper rather than a TWX script. You might want to download my Macro Manager (cheap plug) from The Grimy Trader and play around with it. It's written in ZOC/Rex and should work in Swath, Attac, or ZOC.

Yea you can set up burst with a macro like in swath or another helper.
Now I’m not scripter but wouldn’t a send "your mac" in a script be just as fast as a burst.

I totally agree with SD, the list of commands you send in a script is just the same as the $b function.

Well, I would say that its very close and USUALLY the same thing. The difference (from my understanding) is that a burst ALWAYS sends the whole string in a single packet, whereas with a mac, it is usually but not always a single packet. Someone with more TWX knowledge, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this.

this:
$b ay10000*ay10000*
is the same as:
send "ay10000*ay10000*"
When twx sends text using the send command, it's treated just like a burst.
but...
send "ay10000*"
send "ay10000*"
is not the same. those are 2 different bursts.

Psion,
If I set up a mac in swath like this
$Bay99999**ay99999**^m
Is the same thing as pressing $ then B then typing in ay99999**ay99999** and pressing enter just takes longer.

Nod Speed Demon, I typed before I thought and used the wrong words, heh. Where I said macro what a meant was a TWX send statement. And thanks for clearing that up for me Traitor.

Plug...
My macro looper can do it as well. Just program in your macro, set it for 1 loop. then you can even hide the script by pushing ~, it will stay gone untill you hit that again and the menu will come back up. Then you need only hit G to activate the burst. ALso I think I put in an option to return to the menu after it fires the burst so you can then hide it or use it again....or no..that would be the quick launch option.... play with it if interested.

OH yeah...with that script you can type either * or ^M to send a return in your macro.
