Ok I recently heard about these. Basically they examine ZTM and CIM data to find the best places that a planet or planets could be hidden at. The good ones are right most of the time. The corp that uses one of these will have an advantage in the game. Usually it requires a lot of time to gather the info to parse or data mine the info out of.
A rumor I heard, and I am not sure if this is true, is that there are a few of them floating around that use exploits in the game to view actual sector infomation without ever being there. Any truth to that rumor?
In one game I am playing in, one of the other players said he was running one of these scripts and found one of our bases that way. Apparently it isn't an exploit script as he has not found our other bases yet.
Now a question, would using one of these scripts be considered cheating? There seems to be a gray area here. SWATH, ATTAC, J-TWAT, TWX, ect can show you dead ends and tunnels and bubbles from CIM and ZTM data, but they don't really tell you if there is a planet there. The information is so good, that it is almost like getting it from Tedit for some scripts.
So where are these scripts? Are they private, for sale, free to download, how come I haven't seen them before?

There isn't any script that can show you a sector that you don't have figged. However, people have written scripts to keep track of when they've seen things, what will be the best route to view as many unexplored sectors as possible, and what sort of traffic a certain sector has. There really isn't any great secret to finding people's bases, just cover new ground every day.

How can a script show you a sector that IS figged? Other than pulling it from logs, which may or may not be the accurate.

The script he is using probally is checking the CIM port reports. If he has visited or eprobed a sector that has a port he can get a report on it. The script will then just compare what ports he used to get reports on to the current list. If a port is missing it means it either has an opposition fighter at it or it is destroyed. As a port being destroyed shows up in the daily logs it is a good bet it has an opposition fighter at it. So he checked it out and found your base.

That's where fig grids are vital. If you have 25%-50% of a game figged, a blocked port stops meaning near as much.

I do gridding from day one. I had gridded over deadends and sectors that nobody else hit yet. Then someone told me they found me by my upgraded ports in my base sectors, yet I had the sector and port and sectors around it gridded since day one of the game and I got in there first before any other players even joined the game. It was a slow game anyway with few players.
So my question is how can they even know that a port was there if nobody but me visited there and they never hit my grid figs until the invasion took place? It sure seems fishy to me. But then there is a lot I do not know about the game, so maybe it is possible to scan a port you never visited in some way without using an exploit? If so, please tell me how. If not, then what conclusion can we reach about the situation?

Orion, Believe Harley, They are just screwing with you. That is Total BS.In your base is a Great place to up ports for yourself. if you have figs there noone can find you that way.. But remember that people can do ZTMs and find Obvious places for bases. Data Mining is esentual in any TWGS game. But there are limits as to what you can mine accurately

I know I usually have ZTM data and look for bases myself. Usually I find dead ends in the first day of the game by exploring and use them for making planets. I learned not to make bases near the MSL or too close to Terra, those get hunted first. Also not to make bases in low number sectors because those get explored first.
We have upgraded ports far away from our bases, but also upgraded ports at our base as we have a grid around it and built those ports and we where there first. So nobody should be able to get CIM data on those ports near our bases.
GSS works great for level 4 and above planets.
