I loaded Windows Xp onto my computer. Now Zoc/twcproxy and Swath run slow when being used. Is there anyway to fix this problem. I relaoded both already and that didn't fix the problem. The info seems to drag instead of just poping up like it use to.

I got XP and SWATH still works just as fast as always. Maybe its just you.

What do you have your xp setting at?.. are you running multiple progs at the same time?.. whats your connection?.. whats your machine(ram, proc speed, ect...) your question is too general.. not enough information to go by...

I have an Athlon 2ghz , 256 megs of ram. Computer is fast enough. Both worked fine before i installed win xp Pro. When I first log in it runs fine. Once I get to the game prompt it starts to drag, Rather then just popping up like it use to do.

Do you get the same results if you go to another game on a different server? Just an idea.

Better idea...trash the XP and get Win 2k or go back to Win 98 SE. XP sucks big time.

XP is 2k with added heavy gear. You can easily strip XP to the base of a 2k OS, just as you could mask a 2k OS with "windowblinds" to resemble an XP OS. [8]

With the hardware Nails is pushing though, I don't think its an OS issue. Just doesn't add up. [:(]

Here is your problem. Look at your memory. 256 may have been fine for Win 98, but there are more functions and abilities in XP. The minimum requirements fro XP itself is 128, so you really only have 128 MB to play with. Plus if you are running any firewall, virus, or any other program it is eating it up. XP is supposed to manage memory usage, but I have found it does not do a good job at it. Plus, we all know that Microsoft OS's are memory hogs. So like someone said earlier, go to 2000, which only requires 64MB of ram or back to 98. Or I am sure that PC will handle more ram. Just a little bit of hardware knowledge for you.

You can easily fit XP, firewall, Antivirus, and much more concurrently in 256mb of ram. Windows XP and 2000 being of the same structure use the same memory managment, XP/2k can manage virtual memory better then 98. It just happens to be that XP carries a much larger assortment of features then its previous versions and this fills the memory allocation space. You can strip XP down to its core base of 2k by deactivating or uninstalling a number of features, NOT that it would be worth doing over replacing it with a new install of 2k BUT it can be done.

Anyways, .. I very seriously doubt that since Nails stated it worked just fine prior to installing XP. Unless there were a number of extra 3rd party programs installed in the process (was there?). RAM/virtual memory are not the culprits.

Windows XP runs a number of tests, before and after installation. Are you experiencing the same issue when connecting to different servers? When you installed XP, you recieved a compatiblity report. Was there any conflicting programs of any kind? ie. reported that (filename or program name) needed updating, device driver incompatibilities, etc.

Just a quick question: was this an upgrade from some other Windows OS to Windows XP or was it a fresh install on a clean hard drive? If it was the former ESPECIALLY if you had a pretty well burned in operating environment (ie. six months or more of regular use) it is very likely that something went awry during the upgrade process and will need cleaning up. There's any of a number of things that can cause this kind of behavior from having the OS optimized for background processes instead of foreground ones to a heavily fragmented pagefile (no it doesn't take the full amount of RAM for the OS but it still hits that freaking pagefile and awful lot) to program compatibility issues resulting from the upgrade.. and the list goes on.

well that answerd half my questions nails.. but heres a quick thought.
it seems that your connection is where your lag is comming from (i'm fairly sure since you state that it lags after you log into the server) So its either your connection or the server itself. Does this happen every time.. on every server (you need to check it on multiple servers just to be sure).
If it happens on every server its your connection .. which can be anything from bandwidth to a faulty connection (if on DSL or Tx) .. if your on dialup then its more than likely bandwidth and you need to turn of any kind of virus protection and autoupdate software you have.. and anything else that uses up your connection.

As far as if its a DSL or Tx connection problem.. those take a bit more to figure out. It also leads to ask if your running multiple computers off of a router and any number of other posibilities.

Found the problem, when I loaded xp , it told me that the only thing that didn't load was the printer driver. I assume everything else went well. While checking the hardware I found that xp loaded a vga driver and didn't detect my G-Force 4 4600 TI 128k video card. Once loaded everything works fine. Thanks for all your help!!!!!
