I typically use TWX with Swath but have read many comments saying that Swath is slow. I know its slower with the "light bulb" or recording mode on, but with it of it seems pretty quick. My question is does any have an opinion on how much faster Zoc is with TWX then with Swath's recording turned off? Is there a better combination than Zoc and TWX? It seems like one of those two combinations are the most used - but if I've got to learn a new helper then I might as well try to pick the best combo.

Oh, and do Zoc's REXX scripts execute any quicker than average TWX scripts?

Thanks,

Except in a few extreme cases the scripting language has little effect on the execution speed, as your CPU is way fast compared to your net latency. Its basically the number of waits in the particular script that matters. There are a couple of caveats though:

- On win95/98 Zoc sucks as, as it always finds a way of pegging your cpu [NT/2k/XP are fine]
- TWX (current version- I beleive the new version when its ready will fix this) interpretter is slow enough that shortest path type calculations (e.g. nearest fig) can often take a second or two.
- Swath's scroll is pretty slow. If your script is output intensive, then you should make it not so output intensive by including a bunch of spaces to abort output.
- Tera term has lightning fast scroll, but its scripts won't run properly on win2k (and presumably NT/XP)

depending on what you are wanting to do. I write all of my scripts in burst and have had great success. I execute then with twx with out twx. in swath and in zoc. Because of the method that i use in burst programming it is fast on either. however, it is a few seconds faster in zoc. but it is even faster in a standard telnet package. I use swath and like the features of having the panel. I have tested my scripts on severl boards all with the same results. I test alot on Vid Kids. as well as on other systems. Eventually I will release the language. but if you would like to see it run let me know. it might work for you.

Thanks for the reply's, I am going to give Zoc a try for now. I can load Swath for its visual map, but run TWX through Zoc. Is is there a guide anywhere that explains how best to configure Zoc for TW? Its not really designed as a helper so does anyone have any advice on scroll settings, screen settings, etc?

Also, I think i figured out the auto-reply function, but what's the difference between an auto-reply and an auto-macro? It would be perfect if someone had a site that listed a few common settings and explations - anybody know of one?

Thanks again,

For real power, try Jtwat. It has some kick Butt features, and its bubble finder is really nice.

You can try ATTAC (http://www.tw-attac.com) also. v4.1.3 is due out this Sunday and will include the long awaited bubble finder.
It has a fast scrollback and supports ZOC/REXX scripts and includes macros and sortable/filterable reports and much more.

i will release v4.1.3 tomorrow. it should be the most stable release to date and has a working bubble finder.
