Ok, so I've been contemplating dusting off the keyboard and starting up development again. However, I've definately realized that I don't have the time or motivation to go it alone. What I need is a Java-literate, TW-literate programmer looking to waste some hours on a free, open-source helper for an old crusty Butt textbased BBS game. Sound like something you'd want to get involved in? Well, read on!

This new version would pretty much be a complete rewrite of the helper, so if you've seen the code before and barfed, don't worry about maintaning legacy crap. A lot of it will get tossed, or reorganized into a way that makes sense. The original was put together on an "as-needed" basis, (i.e. What does badboy need to help him win ;) It also was built off another project that imposed certain limitations on how the project was put together, so that the design pattern I was using pretty much resembled "cancerous growth".

So basically, you as the programmer would get a very large say in basic infrastructure design (if that's what you're into...I'm always happy to tell you what to do ;) I've been through the whole thing already, and I have a pretty good idea of what works, what doesn't, and what could be better. But someone with cool ideas about how to do things, and what they'd like to see in a helper (hence the TW-literate part), would be awesome.

I have to admit there's not too much glory involved. crap, I don't have my real name attached to any of this. Its a hobby, pure and simple. I don't take anything from this, other than the satisfaction that 7000 people have at least clicked on the download button for something I helped create. (What percentage of that 7000 got it running is another story. ;) j/k You probably won't get much recognition either, so if you need a daily affirmation from a bunch of strangers on the Internet, you should try elsewhere. (I'll give you plenty, but I think most people tend to ignore the creators except when theres bugs. Fine by me ;) This is for people who like the game, like to code, and want to leave it at that.

Anyways, send me an email (badboy@goosemoose.com) or ICQ me (105123166 )if you're interested. I don't have any particular timetable on this, so I'm pretty much just putting the feelers out for interest right now.

Thanks for your time.

badboy
