I can, but I just don't want to put that much effort into a game. Besides, TWX works fine with Win XP, and when I am forced to go to Win7, then I MAY make the effort. If that makes me lazy so be it.

Try to read what is written, it really is easier to understand if you read all the words. H I'm stupid if I don't know how to edit and compile TWX is what you said. My question remains, can the latest corrected version of TWX 2.05xxx be uploaded to Navhaz.com?

Actually, Cruncher, if you re-read that, he said if you were the model of the average player, then the average player isn't stupid, just lazy. The tone between you two is a tad bit harsh, but given your apparent history...isn't unexpected....but regardless, although somewhat entertaining to those of us reading it, it isn't appropriate for this part of the forum BTW, I don't know the answer to your question.

Completely unacceptable tone. If you can't be helpful or polite, then refrain from posting in this forum. This forum has gone years without posts or topics being reported, until now.
Also, if you feel slighted or offended by a post, then let me know so that I can address it. Do not trade insults or respond in kind.

My point is, yes there may be a lot of scripts here, but you have to know what you're looking for. Most returning players go to NavHaz.com for scripts and to read the returning players document that Sing made, and to read cabal. If we as a community who truly want to grow the player base need to continue to upload updated scripts to NavHaz.com or find a better way to showcase them and make them available. Maybe an FTP branch off of this forum? Now, I'm not asking for your super secret killing machines or cashing machines. Just the general TWX and Mombot script packs need to be maintained and easily accessable. Does this make sense?

Does this make sense? Scripts were available once on Grimy Trader. When that went down, a lot were put up on NavHaz. Since they are still there, why would one need an FTP branch off this forum? And why would we want to give John more to look after/worry about? Seems a little redundant since the scripts are already available.

This tread was started by a returning player looking for help with TWX 2.05. If the one he got was from NavHaz, it's not current. The current version (with the same version number) is here. I'm asking that those who can maintain general scripts, upload them to NavHaz for now. It's format is easy to browse the 3 pages of scripts that are now available. What happens when NavHaz goes down? Or any player site hosting scripts. If Scripts are so vital to play this game, then we need a reliable spot to keep them. Someplace that's easy to find and easy to locate the script you're looking for. Or possibly keep them in the Museum where they can be displayed nicely with a direct link from the forum to there. Much like we have a sysop for the scripts forum, that person would be responsible for uploading updated scripts to an FTP repository, easily accessible by all, and not relying on a fan site that may or may not remain up. Maybe two main areas, scripts that work with 1.03 and those which have been updated for v2, with notes on ones that didn't need updated and work well in both versions.

Sites come up and down all the time. Grimy Trader was around for years, now NavHaz is available. If that site goes down, another would take its place. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm certain someone would be willing to have scripts available to download somewhere. Cruncher wrote: Or possibly keep them in the Museum where they can be displayed nicely with a direct link from the forum to there. Much like we have a sysop for the scripts forum, that person would be responsible for uploading updated scripts to an FTP repository, easily accessible by all, and not relying on a fan site that may or may not remain up. While that is a good idea, there are a couple of things to consider. Is said sysop going to have time/willing to spend time sifting through and marking scripts and version numbers? For example, I know of some that run TWX v2.04, some run an earlier version. Is someone willing to spend all that time organizing scripts for the versions for all to use? Some older scripts do not distinguish what version of TWX it is written for. Cruncher wrote: Maybe two main areas, scripts that work with 1.03 and those which have been updated for v2, with notes on ones that didn't need updated and work well in both versions. That was my other question. While we have scripts for different versions of TWX, you now have scripts for different versions of TradeWars. How do you distinguish which are important and which are not? What gets posted and what does not? This is by no means an attack on your idea. I think having a central hub is good, and would hate to see any of the work that has been brought forward lost in the shuffle. Just realize that is a lot of work for one sysop to tackle, let alone maintain.

I know it is, but as a player trying to learn script play. It can be very frustrating. Put yourself in the place of someone who hasn't play in just 5 years. The scripts they used then, may not all work now. Or some will work on some servers and not others. They may not notice there are currently two versions running. But, from what I understand about some script writers, is that they enjoy writing the scripts more than playing the game. So, this would be fun for someone like that. And I believe the latest revisions of TWX and Mombot work well in both versions ATM, but who knows what if any adjustments may be necessary in future releases of TWGS.

Re: Swath - World Trade Script
Considering that scripts are constantly being fixed and revised, I think it would be great if someone put them all up on SourceForge. Anyone who writes or edits scripts could get a SF account and check their changes into version control. Then anyone could download any version.
I think EP has already done something like this with TWX itself, on Google's code hosting thing. But that's not as useful to the average user, as compiling TWX is apparently not a simple thing.

There was already a link for v2.05 (version that works with Windows7) in this thread that points to navhaz.com. http://navhaz.com/files/twxproxy-205.exeFor those unwilling or unable to start from scratch here is a basic setup of TWX/MOMBOT for Windows 7 users.
