Well, for what my 2 cents are worth, I think a single unified version of TWX would be best. Lots of people have been working hard to get a new central script repository up recently (and succeeded admirably!). I would really like to see more of this kind of centralization and ease of access. If everyone and their cousin runs out and starts working on their own custom versions of TWX, it won't be too long before there are scripts that will only work with one or a few versions and not with the rest. How confusing is it already for new players to get set up with the helpers and scripts to improve their gameplay and capability? How much harder even for those of us with experience to keep track of what TWX flavor will run which script? Or can you imagine having to log off, fire up a different version, and log back on just to run a script? Competition CAN be a healthy thing, but it is also divisive. IMHO the worst thing that could happen to TWX would be if multiple competing versions sprang from it. That being said, I'm not about to offer my opinion without offering my help. I'm not familiar at all with Delphi, but I'm decent with C# and if it does get ported over, I'll be happy to help any way I can.

Hereby it is manifest, that during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called war; and such a war, as is of every man, against every man. For WAR, consisteth not in battle only, or the act of fighting; but in a tract of time, wherein the will to contend by battle is sufficiently known.

Your concern is certainly valid, but can be mitigated by creating a script language specification and API that everyone agrees on. Arguably, this should be done regardless.

Well, I just fixed a problem with TWX Proxy that has been plaguing me since v1.06b. And a few other minor fixes/changes were made.

If anyone wishes to try this specific build out. You can get it from the SourceForge project listed above.

wabbit, i'm sorry, but i have to be honest.
i'm blunt and i say what prolly many of us think.
i'm scared to use a version of twx made by you.
i get headaches attempting to read your posts.
i can only imagine what kind of "changes" you made to twx, and subsequently, how badly it screwed it up.
you do seem to know your geek stuff... but, it's your typing/english skills that concern me. i've seen what typos can do to just scripts... i don't need to be using a twx with them.
silly xide, he was pissed off at the community, you know this right?
this was his last big "F you!" to everyone.
o well.
good luck to the people each doing their own thing.
i know twars, and i know hell will freeze over before it becomes easy for people to work together.
maybe when i come back from my break (which i am loving btw) twx will be under control. (heh, that'll be one hell of a break)

What fixes did you make? I looked at the sourceforge page but didn't see them listed.

It has been nice to watch the feedback roll in. There's nothing quite like a controversy and some name calling to pique the interest of the community. Speaking of insults... Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of ElderBerries. (http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/python/Sounds/HolyGrail.wav/hamster.wav) ElderBerries and I are related somehow [:)]

But I digress. I just wanted to say that Wabbit and I have begun some correspondence so that we can each focus on specific areas of the source code without overlapping. Differences have been set aside for the sake of the community, and quite a bit of progress has been made fixing exising bugs in the code. I really believe there will be a bug free release within a month... if such a thing is possible.

Now, since I'm enjoying this thread and don't want to see it die because it has no controversy...
Slim, Xide told me he was dropping TWX because he was afraid of being stalked by you, and that you are a fat chick in hiding.[:P]

Xide talked about a compiler to recompile 2.02 scripts to 2.03 is this still a possibility or in the works? Also would it be possible to make one to recompile 1.09 scripts to 2.03? What about a patch or a fix for 2.02 so it no longer needs to check for a authentication server.

None of us have any control over fixing 2.02. And since none of us have access to the 2.02 compiler, we can't convert .cts files from 2.02 to 2.03. But the whole point of the project is to make a release stable and final so that the major script writers will recompile their scripts in a 2.03 .cts.

Animal, Vid Kid and I had talked about this 2/3 days ago. So I'll touch on it here. Personally, I would love to be able to create a converter for v2.02 to 2.03. But, this is not possible to do. We would need to source code for v2.02 to even begin to make such a converter. The reason for this, is that there was some changes made to the Compiler, and the Interpreter, to accommodate the new features/commands/bugs introduced in v2.03. If I was able to get my hands on the source. I think it would be possible, but it would take time.

As for the conversion of the v1.xx encrypted scripts. This is possible... But it really depends on if Xide made any changes to the encryption process, and the encrypted file structure. With out the source to the v1.xx series encryption tool. I'll have to take a guess as to how things were, and go from there. But, this would only be a decryptor, not a converter.

As for the authentication... The only way this can be done. Is if someone hacked v2.02. And then created their own cracking utility, for everyone else to use. Now, if we had the source.......

So, if you can get your hands on the v2.02 source, or even the v1.xx source, for us. Then it would be possible to do all of the above, without to much trouble.

That information is there, you just need to look at the Notes for the Release.

Here is a direct link to the notes for the release.
