Thats rather broad slim. I am asking the question - why? What leads you to this choice/conclusion? What makes it greater?

well, mostly because i am the caretaker of the love child left behind when xide retired and elderprophet chose to take twx instead of his kid.
but anywho, it's experience.
i've played with and against many many people in my day, i've taught many many people in my day, and one thing i can conclude from experience is that you can NOT play twars w/o twx.
you can use swath w/ twx, but if you use the swath scripts, you are cutting your own legs out from under you.
in this life sometimes you just have to learn to trust people :)
I in my years here have never ever tried to mislead anyone, or give false information, yet i have helped many get started on their twars careers.
one of those things i told everyone was, get twx and learn to use it.
swath i've always stayed away from as i find it kind of pointless, i never needed a visual map (which is nice i'm sure, but i can picture that stuff in my mind just fine) and everything else swath does is 2nd to twx's ability to do it.

long story short, EP had sex with Xide.
;)

I love to program/script in general so I do look forward trying to do some real work with TWXProxy (and .NET at work). Yes, I do have a love affair with Java, it is the most fun I have had with a programming language so far. That is the great thing about working in this field is there is always more to learn and there is always someone who knows more or creates new (hopefully better) ways of doing things. It can be frustrating at times to keep up. Somedays I wish I could freeze time so I could do all I things I want to do in a day and still give the family quality time.

Thanks for the input all.

As for time, just use the following TWX snippet:

setVar $i 0
while ($i = 0)
echo ANSI_12 "*Scripting for TradeWars is not addictive..."
end

When the snippet finishes running normally, your addiction to Tradewars and scripting will be cured.

Yes, it is what you think in regard to the snippet, and anyone who actually runs it is..... well, what can you say?

As for the ShipEnteredSector event... I've had problems with that not detecting the right ship type. I suppose you could code around this, but that's another one of my issues with swath's java. I had that triggering every time a corpie would enter my sector... originally I was using this to play a wav file, but it didn't distinguish between allied, hostile, etc. So then I get someone that wants to colonize at 6am before work and I wake up freaked out thinking I'm getting gridded to death.

I actually fought this one too and have two possibly solutions for you. First, if you "teach" Swath about each of the ships, by owning one and hitting ; from the computer menu - then it will detect the right ship type. Second, do not use ship type. Instead, put your corp member/allies names into an ArrayList and then just get the Trader name from SWATH's API. Compare against your list and decide whether or not to attack. The drawbacks here are that you have to manually edit the code to change corpies/allies names or put a properties file together using java properties to list your corpies names. I did not use the corporation menu to decide who is in my list, because there may be "allies" that you have a truce with, etc.

Essentially the get trader name approach always worked for me where the get ship type causes in corp fighting :)

No, when I said ship type I meant owner of the ship... as in, whether it's hostile or allied or neutral. It should (and says that it does) have a condition for detecting this. But it doesn't do it correctly, so you have to make a work-around (like an array of traders to check against). I mean in theory you could do a clv and get your corpie's list... or a TA and get your corpie's list, and build the array from that. But all of that is a messy workaround for simply wanting to hear a wav whenever someone kills a fig.

I never have a "truce" ... everyone not corped w/ me is fair game. ;)

Rexxcrow - you must be joking about .NET - Talk about adding complexity! Versatile yes - better than Java outside of TW - I say bah!

LOL, your just blinded by Java love, watch in 6-months you will definitely be singing a different tune... literally, you will be singing that C# high and proud! Smokin’ But, you of course already knew that, hehe. [^]

Rex your just like me. I had to learn Java in school, but after using C# I would not ever like to go back to Java.
