Ok I’ll admit maybe I was a little unclear I’ll try and be more clear and precise in the future.

I’ll say thanks even though you don’t need to belittle me. I was not attacking you I even rewrote my last post to be way nicer then I was to start with.

I’m not asking because I wanted to get in an argument or a long drown out discussion. I’m only asking because I want to be able to keep playing TW with out being interrupted because the authorization severs go off line.

I thought because you and EP have taken on keeping TWX alive you might know a bit more about it then I do and be able to answer my question.

There’s no hidden meanings in what I say and I’m not being scandalous I think you need to get off the crack.

If this is an example of how your going to handle support for TWX I think we all might be screwed here.

You could have said I’m sorry I misunderstood what you were asking or you were a bit unclear but here is the answer you are looking for instead.

So now I start the process of sorting though my TWX proxy directory.

I will say this Wabbit, I’m happy someone is willing to take on this project. I don’t have the time or the knowledge to do so myself like I said I probably know enough about Pascal to recompile the current copy of the source I have and that’s about it. So I say thanks to you and EP for keeping it going for us peeps who don’t know what’s up.

One last thing I might be able to host an authorization server if its needed. [;)]

I checked the email logs at The Grimy Trader and your verification code was sent out immediately, but you apparently mis-spelled your own email address because it was bounced back as undeliverable. About 53 minutes later you requested it resend the code to your correct email addy and it seems to have been delivered.

For the most part we're all trying to help each out in the TW community; lets try to keep it positive.

Sorry for butting in here
In the Source for TWXProxy Xide(IMHO did it the wrong way) hardcoded the authentication servers, so it will be difficult to set up a new auth server unless you use a (I might be talking out my Butt here) proxy server that maps http://www.twproxy.com and/or twproxy.dnsalias.com to a real server that continues to function as an authentication server.

As a secondary idea I do not like this but someone could write a hack to change the binary (aka crack) to be able to either add an alternative auth server (might be easy if you kept the actual name of the auth server the same length) or even have the auth check return the correct information to the script.

Either way it is unethical to do but if Xide has abandoned further development of TWXProxy he also has abandoned registered users by not keeping the server up.

Domain names are fairly cheap could someone with some pull in the community ask Xide to hand over the rights (for just compensation of course) and the auth server can continue to be used for the benefit of all who have purchased TWXProxy and the scripts that require authentication.

It seems to me to be the most obvious first step, but I haven't seen anyone say it was taken, so I'll suggest it. Has anyone just asked Xide for the source for 2.02? I certainly don't claim to know his mind, but it seems strange that he would be willing to release the source for 2.03, but not for 2.02. With either the source or his permission to decompile it, the difficulty of most of these problems would be drastically reduced.

I emailed Xide and asked him for the source to both 2.02 and 1.09.
And also inquired about a fix for 2.02. Will let you all know what response i get if any

I am aware of the issues with the CK Combat pack, regarding version 2.02 compatibility once the Authentication Servers go down, and also regarding the 2.03 recompile that did not work.

First - I will not be recompiling a 2.02 version. Everyone should move on to TWX Proxy 2.03 (Final) as posted at http://www.twxproxy.com. If, at some point, this is no longer available, I am certain a copy will be posted at http://www.grimytrader.com

Second - The problem with the recompiled Combat Pack for 2.03 is that some math functions have changed in TWX Proxy 2.03 Final. The way my authentication works in the Combat Pack scripts is that they take the trader name from the <I>nfo screen, and convert that into the license string, which is a pretty complex algorithm. Then, they compare that result to the pre-generated result in the license file, and if they match, then the scripts will work. Otherwise, they halt with the "Invalid Key" error.

Since everyone's license files were generated with 2.02 math, and all of the comparisons are now being done against 2.03 math, there is a mismatch, and nobody can be authenticated.

Now then, that's the issue explained, what am I going to do about it?

Since I am no longer actively playing, I do not plan to update the combat pack scripts any more. Xide is no longer developing TWX, and I certainly have no desire to try to support any further changes in TWX beyond Xide's 2.03 Final.

Therefore, I will be releasing a new version, compiled for 2.03 Final, which will not require a license file to run. I am tempted to release the source code for the scripts, but have decided against that, as I don't want to expose any potential security flaws to those that enjoy abusing other people's scripts. After this release, there will be no further updates to the CK Combat Pack.

While I realize that some people will now be getting for free what others have had to pay for in the past, I direct you to item D from the Combat Pack terms of use Addendum.

While there are people who might look at the source for a script and use that as a way to abuse what other people are using, if you stop supporting them and someone finds a way to abuse them anyway, it will not be possible for anyone to fix the problem. On the one hand, by not releasing the source, you make it harder to find ways to spoof the script. On the other, you make it impossible for any potential spoofs to be fixed. I would encourage you to release the source and let come what may.

I'm with CK, I don't have any further intrest in TW...if anyone wants any source code- direct an email to john.duncan@coors.com and I will be happy to send it along. I don't want to post on RammaR's site soley because I will not be addressing any fixes- or I would just dump it there.

OZ - put them at grimy trader with a note that they are no longer supported, use at your own risk. That way everyone will have access to them in the future.

CK, publishing your source code would also be an invaluable learning tool for the next generation of scripters. A great many aspiring scripters (myself very much included) would be thrilled to get a peek at your code.
