It's not the $26. It's the principle of the thing. There are a lot better ways to stop software piracy besides making somone go to a server to authenticate it every time they use it. There are several ways this can be done.
1) Do like MicroSoft and make them go 1 time to authenticate it like MS Office does.
2) Send the software on a CD and require the CD to be present to run the program.
3) Send out key codes and hope for no crack. JP doesn't seem to have a problem.
None of the above is fool proof, but yet if the company goes belly up, then the software is at least still usable.
