One of the problems I see running an unlim game is that the person who is willing to stay at the keyboard the longest will always win.

I guess a time limited unlim game would be the answer but then it really wouldn't be an unlim then would it?

I'll give you a hint. Don't make a base within 6 sectors from Stardock. Also, don't make it in a dead end sector where the next gate is a 5 sector entrance. Sorry!

Unlims are like Speed Chess. If you're new, you will lose a lot; and so what? Every loss should be a learning experience. But in the end, the person who dedicates the most time, and days and weeks, months and years will ultimately win. You gotta make a desicion, like I do, and decide if you enjoy long term games.

Lonestar's dead on with the comparison to a speed chess game. It's the same game, but condensed into a lot shorter period of time, so yes, those who are willing to spend the most face time, especially during the first *day* and even during the first *hours* of a game opening are going to win.

Unlimited games really only work when they are rebanged regularly. They will very rarely go more than a week without a player clearly dominating everyone else. If you do not enter the game on Day 0 or Day 1, you are "late" to the game and shouldn't expect to hold your own.

Also note that typically these games start with at least 2,500,000 colonists on Terra. It's a race at the start of the game to divide those among the players. If you come into the game after Terra is emptied out, you're going to be at a significant disadvantage having to rely on the scraps left over from Terra regenerating more - while your opponent(s) are generating 2.5mil or more figs per day for free (since most planet edits are 2:1 or 1:1 on fighter production).

As I've pointed out before unlimited games need to be announced well in advance (a couple weeks) so everyone has a chance to get in at roughly the same time, and preferably at a time when the fewest people are busy like a Sunday afternoon.
