Any TWGS2 servers offer tourney edits? Where do the tourney players play between tournaments?

PS Happy Holidays, may you not spend it in a pod.

I currently have a tourney edit running, but it's been going a while. I plan on hosting a tourney edit after the New Year, without my usual delays.

How many corps to you expect to show up to this tourney? Or will this be a draft style tourney instead of a byoc? Reason I point this out is because there are very few established corps around these days. The corps that are known for playing in tournament style games are:

Kraaken (Split up)
Flying Aces (Never really established & won't play v2 tournaments)
Ground Zero (Won't play v2 tournaments)
Boo Inc (Split up)
Zed Corp (Haven't heard from them in a while)
The Beverly Killbillies (Not a full corp)

The only real difference between a normal game and a tournament is the fact that corps play to win. In regular games, it is more relaxed. When you play a tournament, you all start at the same day and time. and you want to make sure you are there right away. or you will fall behind and possibly be locked out of the game right away.

You have aggressive players who try to hunt you down early. you have to work with your reds and bust the up safely because you will have head hunters at star dock waiting to pod the reds.

Everything is more fine tuned, or should be.

you will have corps watching other corps alignment to gauge how much they are making in comparison to others. and in general you will have more players at the keys during a tournament setting since it means more than a regular game.

This is not saying players don't try in normal games, in my experience they don't try as hard as a real tourney. oh and generally there is a death limit imposed on a tournament style game so that players can be eliminated to help avoid deadlocks.

So I should be looking for low turn games with death limits and play in corps. I need practice in turn management, playing red, playing blue, and gridding. Heading over to Micro's site to see whats available.

Thanks.

Almost all tournaments are low turn games, some have death limits, not all call for you to bring a corp such as draft tournaments where there are captains chosen and players are placed on each team by drafting them. However, you still need to be able to work with a corp, which in todays style of play that means being at the keys when needed, OR that's where a "bot" comes into play. If you run a bot your time schedule can be a bit more flexible and a lot less stressful.

I plan on creating a new, original edit for my next tournament mode game.

Low turns, generous time limit, and death limit. I will give everyone at least a two week notice for game open.

Games on my server typically have some delays to help new and returning players play while the delays interfere with only the most aggressive type of players. The tournament mode game I'll offer soon will not have movement delays, but I will keep the high score view on a delay from outside of the game. Once logged in, all data displays will be on demand.

So yes, in a nutshell, it will be wise to bring a team and practice turn management.

like big D said, playing in a corp to practice is not too necessary however you can gain from others experience or lack there of.

I would pick low turn games. you won't find too many with death limits on. but that is not a bad thing.

turn management is very important in turn games which tournaments almost always are. unless its some unlimited turn tournament.

gridding is useful. Now dontt just find the best script you like and count on it. learn the game mechanics. what will happen when you do a certain tactic. or what can happen and how can you avoid or benefit from it. You want to learn your enemies habits.

what i always found useful was constantly playing against corps or certain players that gave me troubles. and trying to learn from it. you fall down many times, but eventually you gain experience and find ways to use it against them. sometimes lol

unlimited turn games give you a chance to practice fast combat skills since you can gain quickly and blow crap up. but turn games i feel can offer more advanced combat learning skills since you tend to conserve more what you have built. if you take out one person with all yoru assets, you don't have anything left to hold back the others in a tournament. so learn to pick your battles. and in some cases cause the other players to use more than you do. in regards to turns fighters, anything.

you can gain in a game with simple steps. heck i'm not that great of a player, but i constantly try to learn and adapt to situations. i think that is what makes a great player.

Yes, we know how much you love pointing that out.

You people are giving me the itch to download TWGS and play with it a little. I lost it all about a year ago to a HD crash.

Ok, d/l TWGS and worked up a brand new edit. I need a current game op to take a look and see if I missed something big.
