I'm booting up my server and need someone to test to see if they can access it, also how smooth it is running.
connect: teamsword.com
The game edit is not finished yet, I just want to test the stability of the machine I'm running the game on.
Thanks.

I'm in Michigan.

Let us know if you need any more help, or have questions with the game settings.

I'm not sure I understand those numbers, is that good?
I'm assuming it should be running flawlessly, here are the isp and server stats.

Internet, 1mb upload/ 1mb download.
Server
16gigs 1032mhz FSB DDR2
2.4ghz AMD Quadcore
Windows 7

Anyways I got paid today so I will be registering the server under a more fitting name than "teamsword.com" I was mearly using an old domain name to test the server.

Thanks for the information so far.

What Crosby is showing you is how quickly he can communicate with your sever from Iowa.

This method is referred to a pinging. He sends a packet and his program tests to see how fast that packet makes the round trip.

TWGS has a default setting of 150ms, what you can call a sort of speed limit. No one can connect and play faster then 150ms, but if they are on a slower connection then they will more than likely connect slower.

His average speed connecting to you is 164, that's excellent and the reason why his program sent the message, " Patience Hell! Time to SD someone!"

This information is important to know, since the member on the corp with the fastest ping time usually takes the role as killer.

When I play Vid's World, that's located in Guam, and 10 time zones away, my ping on his server is 350 - 400. But still, that's quite amazing concidering that I'm playing on a server nearly half way around the world and it's that quick! :)

TWX Proxy has a script called ping, that's what Crosby used.

You can also use your computer's command prompt and ping any IP address or URL if you wanted to see how this works for yourself.

Thanks Cruncher for the information. I've been wanting to start another server for a very long time (all my equipment was stolen during a robbery of my house last year)

Kinda silly but the sole reason for my server was to allow players to play a game with advanced scripts not being allowed. (ZTM or whatever it is called that maps out the universe for you without using any turns) Sorry, I'm old school and like how the game was 20 years ago when I first started playing.

Great server...seems very smooth and stable, though I only was on
for a short time. Forgive me if I only offered pings in my earlier post.

I know you said the games were only test games, I just noticed that
the default production rate of 5% was set. This represents the time
it takes a port to return to 100%. At 5% it will take 20 days for a
port to return to 100% after being traded down. The aliens in that
Serenity game are killer!

Best of luck with your old school server. Maybe you could make it a
closed game/server and give access out via email request. That
would give you a chance to keep the 'advanced script users' out...

Post subject:  Re: Testing my server

The Serenity edit I'm trying to re-write from memory as it was all lost in the robbery. I will change the port regen later as all I have edited so far were some ships and alien races.

For the Serenity edit the following aliens will be in the game

Alliance (mid fighters, mid shields) (positive alignment) (ignores aliens)
-ships
-scout (scout)
-Crusier (think battleship)
-Destroyer (think beef'd up Tholian Sentinel)
-Command Vessel (unique ship, only 1 in game at a time)

BlueSun (High fighters, high shields) (positive alignment) (will attack aliens)
-ships
-scout (scout)
-Cruiser (think battleship)

BountyHunters (Low fighters, mid shields) (positive alignment) (will attack aliens)
-ships
-scout (scout)
-Firefly (think beef'd up colonial transport)

BrownCoats (Low fighters, mid shields) (negative alignment) (ignores aliens)
-ships
-scout (scout)
-Firefly (think beef'd up colonial transport)
-Destroyer (think beef'd up Tholian Sentinel)

Reavers (high fighters, no shields (due to operating under no containment) (negative alignment) (will attack aliens)
-ships
-scout (scout)
-Firefly (think beef'd up colonial transport with 0 shields)
-Cruiser (think battleship with 0 shields)
-Annihilator (unique ship, only 1 in game at a time, 0 shields)

Each alien race has it's advantages. Every class (positive and negative) have mid and high level ships that way you can claim a mid and high level ship without hurting your current alignment.

Being a military vet myself I know that the average military (in this case the Alliance) can't afford the best stuff out there. This is why the Alliance have mid fighters and mid shields as the average.

The BlueSun being the Elite "above the law" secret squirrel guys in the show have the toy's to bring to the game, while still limited to mid level shields they have a lot more fighters.

The bountyhunters, they don't have a lot of fighters since a bounty hunter is usually a solo-capture type who get their guy/gal and claims the bounty. For that, they have low fighters, but they have high shields due to having a lot of cash from previous claimed bounties that they apply to their ship.

The Browncoat's, they have low fighters as they lost the war due to lacking numbers, they have mid level shields which they acquired from stealing from the alliance.

TheReavers, the reavers have a lot of fighters since they killed off everyone on Miranda (planet from the movie), they have no shields since they always operated without containment (without atmospheric shielding)

Anyways, that's the short and sweet of the ship edits so far.

Not many sysops write a back story about the alien races that they make. I loved how you do so like that. That was awesome.

I love the back story. I was so bummed when Fire Fly was pulled after only one season. I really liked that show.

If you truly want to keep the script players out, you will have to close the game after your players are in.

Or checkout some of the settings I use on my server. I've taken the "edge" off the most aggressive scripts, while players can still use the script programs to play the game. Some things you just don't want to do by hand, like hauling product, and colonizing.

Keep your games low turn and enforce time limit rules and you should be able to attract the types of players who enjoy what you're offering.

I doubt very much he has to worry about veteran players playing on this server if ZTM is considered an advanced script.
