Hey Muss wow long time no see, I came back to the game about 1 month ago, I was talking to heatsink and he might come back he is not sure. There are other vets but not many at all I am finding out, some go by different names. Are you going to hit up some games? Ill look for ya if you do, nice to see a player from my playing time. Welcome back Muss.

Many of those players have been retired for several years. About 20 of those listed left when the work on V2 began. I noticed you didn't mention:
1) Singularity
2) The Butchter
3) Silence
4) Spider
5) Kane
6) etc. etc. etc.

and a few others that have left since V2 has been the main objective.

yeah.. 'most' of that list are guys I haven't seen or heard from in a very long time. sing, butcher etc I played with within a year or so. Although sing doesnt answer me on Icq anymore. maybe he doesnt like me ;)

even back then.. I thought tw had a small community. Small enough to know details about others lives that you dont learn with the majority of online games.

would just like to know how they are doing.

Or maybe they have reincarnated... again. That seems to be a popular pass-time with this crowd. :)

I hardly think so. Most of these new names you are seeing today aren't interested in playing Tradewars, they want truce games and trade hugs.

Do you mean to say that since the advent of v2 we have new players returning to the game who need to get re-acclimated to today's game and helpers? We have "new blood" playing?

Cool beans! That was the goal! ;)

Oh and, there are still some very skilled players behind some of these "new" names.

laff, some things never change. I think it is natural on people coming and going regardless of the version change. I've seen that since 2003/4 when I came back.

Based on forum usage, I don't see the same amount of activity that was here prior to 2.xx, but then I usually only do a quick scan. I don't see people sharing script source or asking questions about scripting. Maybe M()M has made creating/sharing new scripts less important - don't know.

I hope 2.xx brings in new players with new ideas since I haven't seen or heard of anything "game changing" on tactics/strategy for a very long time. The game is basically formula driven regardless of turns/unlim until it is time to go on the offensive.

As for MIA, I haven't deleted names from my ICQ on contacts that I've made over the years, and the vast majority of them are no longer around.

Kane, Freejack, Uncle Sam and Dr Doog seem to be doing fine as I see their updates. Master Time and Ridgerunner I haven't seen or talked to in a very long time. I probably haven't talked to Sing in over a year now.

I think there was a lot of script talk and working on the game timing etc while in transition. M()M has been updated to work with both versions, TWX has been updated for Win7. There are still a few players who do write scritps, but the majority can get by on the new stuff that's been released. Thanks to T0yman, Xanos, Bounty Hunter, Helix and I think Lone Star did some upgrades as well. Vid may even be running out of new things to script for, I dunno... :)

And yes, sharing files is very easy. I'm even beginning to learn how to use some of the more automated trading scripts.

I don't care how you look at it, there are less players today than there was a year ago. Also, at least half the players that are active in Tradewars choose to play v1 instead of v2. That should tell you something right there.

I'm sorry, are we looking at the same numbers?

Servers Installed: 1,659
Active: 96 Active servers have been online in the last 3 days.

Players This Month: 588
Last Month: 702

This Year: 4,464
Last Year: 1,585

Total: 5,895 Player totals are unique players over all servers.

Numbers can be manipulated to refect what you want people to see, and in this case that's exactly what has happened. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Tradewars has many less players than it has in the past.

Numbers are only good for v2.xx servers so we have no way of knowing if v1.03 added a significant number to last year or even this year. It might be possible to show a growth/decline trend of the months using the v2.xx data. Player numbers in the summer seem to decline a little anyway. I wouldn't be comfortable stating growth/decline with the small data sample that would currently be available.
