Post subject:  How do you pronouce router?

I know, this is silly and it's late...

While working I've been listening to intro to programming videos. The instructor is from the UK and pronounces router with a log O, like rooter.

I just had to giggle and share. I know my fellow Irishman is about to scold me about proper "Queen's English" now. ;)

In some areas of Ireland it is pronouced as you do, in others like the English. It is difficult to know about pronunciation, but in the case of spelling, when there is a difference between us, the American version is almost always the correct original English (the only exception I can remember is aluminium - I believe a US President had it changed to aluminum). Some English spelling in England became "frenchified" after the American Revolution; it was considered sophisticated. The United States retained the original - "color" as opposed to "colour" etc.

In the training video, I almost thought I was listening to a roter rooter commercial.

Here's a rooter, there's a rooter, the internet is comprised of rooters....
