Here is something odd that a player is doing on my server: ![]() Player 10 is changing his name so that he can apear to be someone else on fedcomm. In the screen shot above, the player has changed their name to "Silver&bnsp;&bnsp;&bnsp;hey". The spaces cause the player name to appear the same as player 1 on Fedcom. Can we fix this so players must use names that appear unique on fedcomm? |

Why is this a problem? Fedcomm uses ANSI color to distinguish the name from the message. If it's really a problem, a simpler solution would be to have the game insert a character that isn't allowed in names between the name and the message. Then it would be unambiguous even with ANSI off. |

Then it would be unambiguous even with ANSI off. The problem happens when trying to distinguish one from another when both are talking on fed comm. Fed comm only displays the first 6 charactors of a players name. "silver" and "silver hey", both only show up as "silver" on fed com as to whom is speaking. This also leads to private computer messages getting sent to the wrong player if you're not careful. This is actually a bug, JP has/had systems in place so these types of things could not happen, but it's not functioning properly. It will be fixed. |

Don't allow name changes, that is an option you can turn off/on. If I remember correctly it is <H> General Editor Two <L> Allow Aliases? : No <- stops the name changing |

Normal tactic of his to show in game be as annoying as possible and when a sysop is forced to make a change he CBY's. Oh wait I thought he was not going to play on any servers with the new version of TWGS.... Oh and let's not forget about a player then starts accusing a trusted sysop of changing other things in T-Edit. I wish they could come up with some thing new besides trying to stir things up for no reason. To quote a TWGS great "Vote With Your Feet"-SG & I add "Quietly". |

You're right probably shouldnt accuse him of things like that... but what is the issue...? did u get complaints from any one... i think 6 or 7 of us were on... As for voting with my feet ...i did... I know his site will go on as will my life... Just not sure why we're changing a none issue... |

I have seen in the past it cause some issues with some poorly wrote scripts, people tend to talk to someone they think they know and giving detailed info to the wrong player. It is a tactic I have seen KB use several times in the past and it usually ends up causing enough of a problem that more than 1 or 2 end up leaving. If it does not effect game play and it preserves what the original intent of the game was about then why not just nip it in the bud. I have had to change Corp names due to a bug in SWATH that would crash it if you did a corp listing and the name was to long. Sometimes Sysops are forced to make changes without warning, and we take the responsibility of someone not liking it. But since you yourself said it was a NON-Issue why CBY? |
