It seems the point of other threads is quickly becoming a battle ground for folks before it gets locked. So I know this has been a request in the past but lets cast a vote, open smack talk back up? Comments? |

And just a quick thought, after a very brief conversation with another player, if smack talk is brought back it would have to be moderated. Moderated by someone who is not bias and has no problems with anyone on the board. The only thing that should get a topic locked in a smack talk should be racial comments, or threats. I would volunteer for something like that btw, I don’t get my feelings hurt too much these days and give some of these guys room to grown and moan... |

Personally, I loved the Smack forum. Even though I was the one getting the brunt of the Smacking. But, some adults became too childish and down-right vulgar. This is JP's forum and as a business owner he prefers to keep this childish/vulgar behavior/posts out of his forum. Didn't booger point to another forum that allows Smack? Let's respect the "wishes" of the owner here, just as we need to respect the wishes of sysops who are striving to carve out their niche' and offer a different type of game maybe using some of the new options available. There are other places to talk Smack. [Edit] Wow, the poll works now! |

I have found in my experience that driving your traffic to other sites only creates a long term problem that has some users finding themselves playing another game all together. You could say "I don’t care" or "it’s not important" however some users prefer to be able to talk "smack" to one another and as a business owner I don’t believe JP or Trade Wars can afford to push any players away. I agree with you about people being childish, and between you and I, I don’t think anyone is immune to that. In the past week I have seen post from long time players I never thought I would see... and worse yet I read them in the Beta TWGS and open discussion post. Very intelligent and wise people got off topic fairly quickly and the post had to be locked/deleted to ensure the post stayed on track. Why try and fight the problem? Why not give players and board admins a place to host topics deemed to sensitive for people just trying to catch up with the TW World. I believe if we can come up with a universal set of rules, and simply delete post that violate those rules; we could provide an open option for people to get a little bit more to the point than "open discussion". Let’s agree it already exist on this board, just not in the proper place! Let’s open the place that is specifically for that... Just my 2 cents... and great glad the poll is working! |

Big D wrote: Very well said Ender. I second the motion. As far as JP is concerned, it's not necessarily his wish to NOT have smack talk. It's his wish that smack talk not get out of hand. This can be accomplished with the right moderator, and there's no doubt that Ender would be a very good choice. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=31868&p=224487&hilit=Smack#p224487 H |

Thanks for that link Helix; I was not a part of that conversation when it happened. It appears right now we are about 50% for and 50% against a smack talk section; ultimately I assume that JP shut it down there. The problem we run into is that who decides what is healthy debate and who decides what is over board? The admin and moderator themselves decide, but I can be frank with you in saying that your opinion and mine about "healthy discussion" may vary drastically. On a side note I am not pleased to see a post about something in the twgs beta turn into a flame, just like I am not pleased with something in open discussion turning into a flame... I would expect it from a "smack talk" section, but not open discussion. With that in mind I renew my request... Why not come up with a set of guidelines for a smack talk forum and insert a disclaimer as well as guidelines for posting. Would seem like a good idea as well to insert a fresh moderator over the thread as well. Just like Big D and Vid Kid refused to post or read in certain sections, others can follow suit with the smack thread... as well as moving any post that begin to travel the wrong direction. Seems like it would make life allot easier for the admins and mods, but hey that’s jut MHO. But we can all agree and I can grab the links about post in other threads that have NOTHING to do with where they are, or that travel quickly away from topic. |

I dont mind text based arguements. I am civil. I vote yes! Sure Believe it or not Vid Kid and I get along well! If you read the posts real careful you will find out that we actually like each other. I already can tell i like everyone on this forum. Think of everything that was said by vid kid and I as One Big Hug. I believe its good to vent views out in a forum. Just need a good moderator, and Ender is my vote! So yes to smack and yes to ender! |

I'm waiting to see how this business model works out. Usually a company bends over backwards to please it's customer base; majority rules, mitigate these issue to attrack more customers, not send them away. Usually the one or two people who regress to the intellectual name calling of 'sticks and stones', are given a stern warning and dealt with; individually. This method of alienating the entire user base for the sake of a few is like: ....the good of the few outway the many. |

I had a convo with another player about the smack talk subject, classictw.com represents tw2002 as a product / support forum..if Im wrong please correct me. For individual sites that run TW it makes more sense to have a smack forum for those users to post about other players on that server. I have personally seen the smack get WAY too offensive, but ive also taken part in the smack forum and I thought it was entertaining at times. Smack talk has opened alot of interesting technical convo's about the game itself as well. Its a tough place for JP to be and make a decision on. Players shouldnt only come to classictw.com to smack talk or to defend themselves, its not the point of the forum IMO. If we want to have discussions, agree/disagree opinions on a topic where we go back and forth in a mature and civil matter then do it in open discussions. Most of us are true adults, and we know where the line is even if you don't want to admit it. Just my $0.02...I need a raise... |
