So I havent been playing much lately but just logged into a fresh unlim and wow I have NEVER EVER moved so fast as I am on this server, it is almost like I am playing locally... should I be knocking on my neighbors door to see if they are next door?? Or is this part of the new release...

The new release is faster, but it might be a combination of things.

I gave the gameop more control over the speed of the game, which includes speeding it up or slowing it down relative to how it ran in the previous version. The fastest speeds are definitely faster than they were. I optimized the IO routines and events, mostly by replacing polling with waitable events so IO and events are handled instantaneously rather than every 250 ms. I had to put in pacing to slow it down because it ran WAY too fast without them.

Your speed is mostly determined by how fast your connection is and that of the server. But there are other factors. What looks faster may be a matter of the gameop setting ship movement to the least possible delay, currently 25 ms, 1/10th of the least possible delay in the previous version. It wouldn't surprise me if that's what you're seeing.

JP the more control of speed seems like a good idea, now the sysops can taylor the games speed better and hopefully make the games they host better for all, especially if they know some of their players are on a dial up connection, they can taylor things better to make the games more fair for those players as well.

I think you have the right idea on the better controls for game speed.

I agree, started up my shiney twgs the other night to play around a bit. Thought it would be interesting to make different "themed" games with different delays to add to the theme.

They must've lowered the ping setting in the timings menu.

I thought the new settings were to ensure everyone had a base of 150 ping?

Post subject:  Re: Whoa...

The op can set that to whatever, but default is 150 ms ping. Also, he might be reporting network ping, not in-game ping which is actually tricky to measure accurately.

Thanks JP got the new setup going and like the whole rewrite on the control of the pings, I setup a small private game on my home machine for me and a couple friends, and we have some scripts to give in game pings, and they also have improved as well using the faster settings. I think you out did yourself on this, and when I set it to slower speeds the whole game takes on a whole new aspect or rather a very old aspect, which makes it fair for the people on dial up to play with confidence on a game and know they won't get wiped out off the bat.

Thanks, you did well on this.

Games A and B are set to "No Delay" and 25ms ship attack/move.
Games C and G are the default 150ms.

No problem JP and I really like all the new things on the editors, having fun playing with them, I also like the over all GUI change and functionality. It makes it easier to do things and work more efficiently, again thanks.
