Right. In case you missed the meeting, it was decided that the smack forum encouraged a level of incivility in the forum that was unhealthy, and often spilled out into the rest of the site. I think it's just more consistent for the moderators to expect a uniform level of civility in the posts over all areas of the site.
There are plenty of places people can go to trash talk. I don't want to legitimize it by having a venue specifically for it on my site. This is something that I often disagreed with SG about, but I deferred to his decision on it for many years.
As long as people remain respectful, I have no problem with healthy disagreement and debate, in any forum on this site.
