I want to clarify my point of view!
I am NOT against scripting! What I'm actually against is the players that say we don't care what rules you make, we're going to do whatever we want as long as the game allows it.
I am against many of the underhanded down-low and dirty tactics being used primarily by scripters. That's why I run closed games that have additional rules specified. I also run open un-regulated games, and the only rules I have in those games is no dupes, and no bug use.
If you play pool in a tournament, you have to play by tournament rules. If you play in a bar, you play by bar rules. I have a pool table in my living room, and when we play in my house we play whatever rules we want.
So play whatever kind of game you want, but always abide by the GameOp's rules. Let's try not to drive new and returning players away from the game.

I agree with that 100%.

Quote: I am against many of the underhanded down-low and dirty tactics being used primarily by scripters. So is there a public script that you have a problem with? What tactics exactly do you have a problem with? I have a hard time agreeing to such a vague clarification. I'm against dirty tricks, like CBY cashing for example ...but c'mon, things like CLV data gathering has been called questionable lately.

Re: I want to clarify my point of view!
Cros, it's very easy to understand. Here we have people unwilling to think past a few very simple roadblocks. Rather than deal with an issue, they call it cheating, or unfair, or try to modify the game, edit, etc, to do away with it. It's like the guy that gets plastered by a photon, then starts a server and disables photons in all of his games for the next 6 months. A lot of people do it, it's a TW cliche.
Normally it only lasts a few months, but at the moment here's a full TW moon that's brought a confluence of newbliness. Fortunately, it won't last forever. Once JP finishes the beta and people realize they can't get their wacky ideas twisted into game settings, it'll settle down.
And CBY cashing isn't a dirty trick, lol. If a sysop doesn't intend for people to CBY cash, he/she can either add a death delay, reduce the amount of cash and figs people start with, or add a death limit

Quote: Anything that wasn't intended by the game designers. I know that's very vague, but I'm really not in the mood to argue over weather or not the designer intended you to make money by blowing yourself up, etc... etc... So you're in the mood to start a post to clarify your point of view, but not to actually clarify it? Look, I understand your point of view; you like people playing in your 'pool tournament' to play by your rules. But if you don't have a rule against it, the first time you see a masse done well, you're gonna call cheat, or am i mixing metaphors too much? Some players like to win, and have the time on their hands to take some extreme measures to be the best... like alarms set up to wake them up if someone hits a fig. Is that cheating? Or some fierce dedication to the 'grid defense?' Heck, I heard a rumor about someone having a Mt Dew bottle near the computer if he had to go during serious battle.... So is it underhanded, or extreme dedication to the win? There really should be some reward for bringing a group of 5 or 6 guys together and winning game after game... c'mon, one public script that is underhanded? TAG?

Fire up ram's passive gridder, turn on the saveme option, crank up the cannon on the planet. Mow around, let them chase after me and eat cannon. Done and done. Tag is only a problem in truces, but then again truces are unnatural to begin with.

Actually it's more about the Chicken Fajitas and Guacamole! The table is just an excuse to have my friends over.

Re: I want to clarify my point of view!
Quote: Even Jesus wouldn't subspace crawl. An actual SS-crawler script would just be a collossal waste of time. I'd far rather my corpies split up ztm duties and got the corp a good map... iirc Helixs' famous 'crawler' script actually was 'burst ss-blurber' that just macroed the same message to each channel and changed the channel. There was no 'listening' involved. What a huge psych out though..one for the record books. I think it's easy enough nowadays to change the corp channel prior to daily cashing...period. If my opponents want to waste the time to try to listen, well they don't concern me. Sing, Re:TAG wrote: I love it when ppl run that script to knock me off. Didn't JP fix this in the new Beta? Finally: Quote: your point of view; you like people playing in your 'pool tournament' to play by your rules. I totally agree that when playing on server, you should obey the server's rules. However, you had better have a spash page somewhere with your rules posted clearly.

Re: I want to clarify my point of view!
Now I'll make my point. You have a server, you make a lot of rules that are unenforcable, you have very few players after awhile. FACT!

Even better, do like I did and write a script that everyone on the corp runs in the background that randomly changes the corp channel by communicating by private hail. Subspace crawler script is old news for those smart enough to deal with it. R cros mac qq**cby**
