I see from the log that from about 7:15 to 7:45 eastern time, a player named Junk Pile had several crashes. These crashes were caused by the player's user record being locked. When the player attempted to move, a lock attempt on his/her own user record caused a lock timeout and closed the game. I'm looking for information on what might have happened to cause the player's user record to be left in a locked state. Did any player experience any strange behavior like a locked-up game prior to 7:15? If Junk Pile is around and can answer this, were you doing anything that might have contributed to the crash? Was another player attacking you as you were moving? After 7:45, the errors go away. This suggests that the lock was cleared away. This most likely means that a hung game that had the lock was closed and the lock was released. Does anyone have any info on what might be going on here? |

We all (Xanos, Master Blaster & I) locked up around 11:30 game time last night. I think I was just trying to plot a course, it happened a couple of times briefly. Xanos experienced as well later that night. We could use more experienced players in the game. |

I noticed that a player in another game had an "out of memory" error about the time the lock crashes started for Junk Pile, so I'm sure that contributed. Anytime there is low memory, anything can happen. So the focus needs to be on what caused the out of memory error. Unfortunately I have little info on that. I need to talk to the person who was playing that game when it crashed and find out what they were doing. I'll go over the logs right now to see what happened at 11:30. I hope the bugs aren't making the tournament unplayable. It's good to be seeing these bugs in a controlled environment so I have a chance to fix them. |

Ok, the logs show no unusual activity at the time you report the crash. Great. The logs should show controlled exit from the game, so any crash or normal exit. The only thing that wouldn't show up in the logs is if the game was closed externally, like from TWGS (though TWGS would report that and it didn't), or from the Windows task list. I did notice that someone on HHT had an "out of memory" error this morning at 9:30, so something is definitely consuming memory. I'll study the memory debug files and see if I can track that down. Chances are good that's what's behind this other strange behavior. Low memory can effect the entire system, not just the game that is causing the low memory. |

Very nice, glad this game is helping. I was thinking back to last night and junk pile. About that time the players were asking about the 15 members teams and if the game was limited to just two corps. junk pile tried to break into my corp about that time, then started his own. I'll see if I can get him to post his response, but from what I know of junk pile is the last I knew he didn't even own his own computer, plays 100% manually whenever he can borrow a friend's computer to get online. I played with him once on Ice-9. The slowing of the game we've felt before in other games, specifically Ice-9 had issues with this. We would just assume V'Ger was d-loading porn again. |

Just had another freeze-up at 8:55:33 game time. Zod in game felt it too. He was doing nothing, corpies were ZTM'ing and running colos. I pulled my corp planet list just before the freeze. ------------------------------------------------------- Another little freeze at 9:49:42 Not doing anything in particular, sitting and chatting with corpie on ss. |

When you say "freeze", do you mean that you had to drop carrier and start again, or that it just stopped, then continued after a bit? BTW, last night I found a bug where you could log in twice under the same player name (or any number of times)! When I redesigned the way the game handles events, it broke the ability to test if a player is online. I fixed that, but then the fix went too far and you would knock yourself offline when you left the game to the entry menu and tried to re-enter from there. I just uploaded the fix to that. Unfortunately, I kicked you off and probably derailed your operations. Sorry :( I'm also tracking a bug where the ship move time can sometimes go to a very high number. I think that's fixed, but will watch to logs to see. |

It would just freeze, did not knock me to the menu. When it said "Forced offline by second connect." I left the game to look at the * menu and settings, then tried to get back into the game without quitting back to the main menu. After I quit to the main menu and reentered the game it was fine. |

Ok, whenever the game freezes without crashing, it's probably caused by some other app taking lots of CPU. This server is shared, so I don't get 100% of the resources. It would be nice to see first-hand what's taking up the CPU, in case it's one of the TW processes doing it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was something else. The first night of the tournament, another app was taking about 40% of the CPU. Between that and the fact that I'm running an unoptimized, slow debug version of the game with lots of extra overhead, the game should be running very sluggishly compared to what it'll do when I take the breaks off and when it's not sharing CPU cycles with other apps. |
