 Actual Building Game???
Is anybody hosting an actual building game on their server? I was in one for a short time recently, but it became impossible to do any building so I gave it up. It also was in reality only a 30-day truce game, so that's not really what I was looking for anyhow. I've looked through the Game Bang forums, and have yet to see anything interesting (to me). There are a few sites with low turn games, but that is also not what I am after. Someone who shall remain anonymous made a TWA file based on the info I had from the old UTW Builders game, but I never heard back from the sysop of the site that was going to host it.
I'm looking for 40k+ turns, no time limit, well stocked Terra, 20k sectors, 2-3 alien races including Ferrengi, a sweeper to get rid of excess figs, and the same rules that were in the UTW game. An example would be no PVP combat without mutual consent.
Is anybody hosting a game like this, or would anybody be willing to host such a game? I have the TWA available (I think, I have no real way to verify what it is, but I consider the person who made it to be trustworthy). It may need a few tweaks, but it should be close.

Don't know of anyone with a game like this, and way too many turns for me to want to put it on my board, sorry.

 Re: Actual Building Game???
The only downside is that a 40k turn game won't tend to be a builders game. You would need an enforced truce, and as soon as that ends the game will either stale out or be won by one corp.
What truce rules are you looking for? What would and would not constitute a truce violation?

No reason in particular, just I have always felt that ICE9 is a niche type of server that focuses on a certain kind of game, and that many turns is not it. Not saying it is any worse than what I like to put up, just out of our niche.

 Re: Actual Building Game???
I tend to agree with V'Ger. With that many turns, players will get bored with building and aliens fairly quickly and someone is going to do some sort of PvP action. My experience is, if you do truces, some jerk will always break it. No bigger headache for a sysop than truce complaints.

 Re: Actual Building Game???
Building games are scored on how you build, not what you can take from others. At least on my board the last few I ran were no PVP attacks or you got to see what the other side of the door looked like. The problem with rules is it takes an active Sysop and most are not willing to give that much time. Much more time consuming than bang it and forget it.

What truce rules are you looking for? What would and would not constitute a truce violation? The rules at UTW were pretty simple. 1) No PVP combat except by mutual agreement. 2) No Dock or Class 0 blockades. 3) No more than 500 figged sectors per Corp/Solo player. 4) Nothing built and no figs in the MSLs. They had server-side scripts to keep Terra full of Collies, keep the MSLs clear and enforce the figs/blockades rules. The no PVP rule was pretty much just common sense. Players and their bases are off limits to other players. If you accidentally warp into someones home base with L6 planet(s), accept your losses and try to retreat. You'll die or the IG will let go eventually. If you blatently violate the rules, expect your corp to lose everything and/or be banned. I think that was pretty much it. As Toyman noted, I'm sure that when it first started, it was probably very SysOp intensive, but after a while, the rules were just accepted and play went accordingly. The server scripts probably helped immensly as well. I may just have to wait till JP releases the new version and set up a local game. And before anyone goes about telling me how boring that would be, I already know. But that is really what I am after when I get home from work. It also would provide the stability in a game that I need to finish automating my spreadsheet while learning Excel VBA. Normal games change way too fast and do not last nearly long enough for that.

 Re: Actual Building Game???
Geeze! So all the guy wants is a builders game somewhere. Is there not one sysop willing to put one up for him and other players?
I do realize they are a headache for the sysops. I understand its more work. While we appreciate that the sysops are here to post games for us to play it seems to me that with this community dying down like it has we would want to accomodate a wider variety of players if able.
I really don't get it.

Muss wrote: there was a script to count how many figs each corp/player had in the universe? There are a couple. I have one, I know T0y has one that is far meaner than mine. If a corp is found to be in violation of the fig count limit, it randomly choses sectors and removes those figs until you are in compliance. That is a good incentive for people to stick to the rules if there is a chance their door could suddenly be fig free.

If you went over 500 sectors, it would remove all the figs in a sector until your sector count was below 500. And if that sector happened to be your door or base, too bad. You should have learned to count.
