Post subject:  Java Telnet Client Setup

I was bored today and I decided I wanted to add Java Applet to my site, I did some searching on the forum and could not locate information that explains how to do it. Here is what I came up with. I ripped some of it from Ice 9 (thanks V'Ger)

under my site name of toyland-twgs.com I added a folder java so it would look like this toyland-twgs.com/java

in the java folder there will minimum 3 files:
default.htm <- Could be anyname.html or htm (I just use the default)
Attachment:
default.htm.zip [1.52 KiB]
Downloaded 267 times

applet.conf <- java info that will need editing for your TWGS server
Attachment:
applet.conf.doc.zip [2.9 KiB]
Downloaded 349 times

jta26.jar <- http://javassh.org/download/jta26.jar

I highlighted the variables in the first two files that will need to be changed for your site.
this line in the default.htm "WIDTH=840 HEIGHT=560>" is optional to play with for the size you want on your page. Once the folder is created and files placed in add a button to your home page pointing to the default.htm (or the name you opted to use) and it should be up and running. I hope this helps for those that want an easy method of adding the javatelnet client to their site.

If you want to see what it looks like you can go to the link in my signature.

But how do you play with such a client?
How do you port a helper into an Applet?

or is it just for looking at game stats etc.

I know it is hard to believe but some people like playing by hand, plus it gives the ability to look in a game and check things out prior to setting up TWX/Swath.
I never seen anyone setup some scripting type things but I am sure someone that codes could figure it out.

We have the Java and the Flash terminals on our site. Some people use it to login and check their messages or other info when they are away from their helpers. We were asked if we could provide them, they get usage.

When I came back I played 2 months manually via the java client on Ice-9, 100% manually until I got tired of all that typing. The Java client is helpful to peek in on the game when you're away from your own computer and don't have a telnet client handy. My son tells me people write code for Java games all the time. Neigher he nor I write code.

Might be a fix for the interim to see how many people would really play if all you had available was a simple colo & ppt scripts for a java client... make a low turn game... eh who knows like I said I was bored and thought I would help other than might want to add this.
