I was notified this morning that ICE9 went offline last night sometime after I went to bed. I was hoping that all it needed was a quick reboot, which is normally the case when something like this happens, but unfortunately the situation appears a bit more serious. The server box had powered itself down, and when I went to boot it up, I received error messages about disk failure, fan failure, and the computer shutting down due to a thermal event. I need to investigate the issue further this evening, but it sounds as if I have had some quasi-serious hardware failure. I probably have most, if not all, of the parts that I would need to get the server back up and running, but the disk failure error message makes me fear that there was data loss. I will be able to investigate this further this evening, and will post additional information when I have it.

If there is permanent data loss, I would probably bang a few small games, but not bang one of the ICE9 Builder games until JP has released the new beta, which should be in a few days.

I have managed to isolate the issue, and it appears as if the fan died, and the spare fan I have at home is of course incompatible. I will head out to RadioShack in the morning to pick up a new one. I apologize for the down time.

Thank you V'Ger! Hey stuff happens! The last time I had a fan go out it was quite spectacular! Sparks and smoke! The accountant accross the hall was borrowing that machine to check his e-mail when it happened. I accused him of downloading HOT porn and it's all his fault he burned up my computer!
