I know it's a little touchy subject due to what the game has done to this game. However, does anyone have it? I was watching some online trailers today and it kinda sparked my interest.

Thanks!

Comet, I play, and at one time had 13 accounts running. Yes its overkill, but it's a long story LOL. Not sure it can be said it's affected TW though. It's just TW grown up!
You have to pay almost $70 for SC2, and that would buy you a year of game time if you pay a year. It's $14.95 a month if you do monthly, which is reasonable for an online game. You can also pay for game time using the in game currency (isk) once you start making money in game so it's not coming out of pocket.
Eve is hard in some respects when you first start. You're character is unskilled, with not much money, and you have to have patience to get the skills and money (isk) do too much efficiently. I cheated in a way by trading characters until I got some with the skills I wanted and now sit rather pretty in the game, yet you can always dream for more.
There's no winning, yet a few have tried. Two corporations consisting of thousands of members and controlling large amounts of space have recently folded due to a single spy getting inside, and breaking down their defenses at key times. This allows smaller corporations to grow and try to hold that space that has recently been vacated.

There are also the markets, which work just like the stock exchange. Prices move every day, and are player driven. Players can mine asteroids to process into minerals to sell, or to use to manufacture other items to fit their ships, or sell for profit.

There are endless ship fits. Each ship type is a little different, and there are lots of ship types, and are totally configurable by the pilot. You can spend hours looking for the perfect fit, then have fun going out and testing it on some unsuspecting player

There's also the pirate aspect. Huge profits are made by pirates hitting ships with large expensive cargos, and blowing up their ship, and taking whatever product isn't blown up. They then in turn ransom it back to the previous owner, or sell it on markets.

It's a fun game in many aspects, and I think it’s a fair price to pay.

if it didnt cost id play it. if they had a limited free mode like imperion or D&D online id play it. but no game is worth a subscription fee... especially if you lose your progress if you dont pay.

You don't loose progress, you just don't progress further. You can not enter the game for years and it will be just as you left it when you return.

some of these online games do you like that. the 2 things i like about modern TW is that scripting is allowed(i think its the only online game like this) and its free. tho i might break down and buy swath with the advent of larger unis.. or i might go to zoc. im a cheap bastige what can i say?

Nothing wrong with that, Booger. Trade Wars players are notorious for being cheap bastards. I remember the days when players would balk at paying $5 a month just to play TW at a Worldgroup or Wildcat BBS.

Now $5 a month are pennies compared to what the Massive Multiplayer Online RPG's charge with some going from $10 to $50 a month..maybe more.

No thanks.

But didn't RP say that you can earn money in the game to pay for your time playing?

Did you also see where he mentioned that you have to be in the game for almost a year before you start making any money and he also has 13 accounts so that is prolly a huge reason why he doesn't have to pay for it :) Dedication!

Yeah and the nice thing about most console games, a lot of them does not require 24/7 play. Finish your mission with your teammates and/or enemies and it's done. Sports game are a great example of this.

You can make money, just not really a lot. There are different ways to earn isk. You can run missions in the game which pay money, you can mine and manufacture stuff to sell, or just sell the minerals, There's the pirate aspect I mentioned above, but that’s where the skills are needed to be any good at it.
Making isk in game isn’t like TW where you set up your script, and go and end up with billions. When I first started, I thought 40 Million to buy a new ship was hard to achieve, but you could do it in a weekend. A PLEX (Pilot Licence Extention) which extends your game time can be purchased for about 250-300 Million. You can make that in a month, but makes it hard to buy ships and such to have fun in the game as well.

For you console players, there’s a new game in the works for X-Box called Dust-514. This as I hear will be another first in the gaming industry. Dust will take place on the planet surfaces of EVE, and will share the same database. There will be interaction between the games. I can hire ground forces to carry out missions on the surface from eve, or surface players can call in air strikes from EVE players. You (as I understand it) will be able to create corporations between both Dust and EVE players, so this will be interesting. But if you’re a console player, you can enter via that game when it’s released.
