Has anyone been able to run TWGS under Windows 7?

...it will install and run.. but importing games will not work -far as I've been able to determine.

You have to install it outside the "program files" directory.

And in my case I also had to give it admin permissions but I am probably doing something wrong.

It seems that I'm always doing something wrong as my wife keeps telling me.

It install to default folder: \Program Files (x86) , import didnt' work. I reintalled to \Program File , the import-program/windows still created the game folders under the \Program Files (x86) folder.. I then reinstalled off the Root folder (c:\TWGS), tried an import of a TWA and TWGS/Windows still tried to put game files in the \Program Files (x86) folder.

I set *all* the Executable files --in the twgs fodlers-- to Windows95 Compatibility, with admin. Nothing seemed to work.

Well there must be a registry entry used as a pointer.

If you install, then re-install to a new dir, the old registry keys will still be there... and it's going to keep trying the old location.

You need a clean install, installed to c:\twgs or something like that. I have mine in c:\tradewars\twgs

Cleaning the REG did the trick. Install off Root directory appears to be working fine.

Thanks for the tips

Yeah, this is something I need to fix. I hope that's the extent of problems with Windows 7. I figured I'd be out of luck with this version of Windows, but it still seems to be hangin in there.

Any time you want to change the directory your game is running from, you can set that in the Configuration, Server tab, Root Directory. So if you move the game to a different directory, changing that setting should get it working. That root directory is what was held over in the registry.

I would ask that you consider a version of TradeWrs for a game console (PS3, XBox). I have lots of ideas and I'm sure others would have something to contribute to the idea. There are way too many 3rd person shooters in the market. I'd hate to draw a comparison to EVE, but I think if you research that online (PC based) genre, you might notice a potential ($15/mth * +/-50,000 players).

Just a thought.

Oh I would so play, Long as it didnt look like EVE. That Music is creepy and makes me fall asleep when My friend plays it. But a Version of TW on 360/ps3 would be cool
