Unread post Credit Card Scams
A couple of credit card scams were recently forwarded to me. One has been around for a while.

The first is the switching of a credit card. Basically you give your card up for a purchase, i.e., dinner, and when the card is returned, it is one from a different person that has expired or been cancelled, but same appearance/lender. They are counting on you not looking to verify your name on the card. If you notice, it is played of as a mistake because the other card was "sitting there". Your credit card number and authorization code that is on back may also be compromised even if you do get your card back.

The next scam provides your credit card number and possibly the authorization code. The way it is done is with a phone's camera. Card goes onto a counter, pic taken by someone standing nearby with a phone. I don't know if they flip the card when given back so the authorization code is capped or not, but simple enough to memorize quickly by the scammer.

k, not TW related, but if you are willing to lose a few thousand, send me the cash, and just be aware of the above.

Nod. There's some ways you can protect yourself. Most CC companies have a pretty easy lost card policy, you can "hot card" your number and get a new one issued without leaving yourself open to much liability. It's also smart, if you plan to use your number a lot of places, to use an account with a small limit. You can get $500 or $1000 limit cards pretty easily. Do that especially if you shop online, as you can never predict how tight a site's security is.
