Hello everyone, :D

I'm not new to the text based game 8) but I am to this particular one. :?
From what I've read this one is old ergo must be cool since it's still being played.

From what I've read you can host your own game so I guess one of my question would be:
Would you have any address to suggest to a new player ? :?:

Also:
From my reading it seems that the game require heavy scripting skills.
How much of that is true ? Where can I read more about it ? :?:

I've been around a lot of mud style but in the last thread it seems there is a lot of hatred coming from the admin is there something I should know before playing ? I've seen admin going after player for not playing like they should in there game and I wouldn't want to get banned because I didn't play like I should have.

Thank you!

I think if you don't try to cheat or circumvent any of someone's Server rules i doubt you would have a problem....Anything you see that comes from me that you feel is full of hate would no doubt involve rules being broken or people cheating..But you'll know what the rules are when u sign up for a game...

As for your questions yes Scripting is a heavy part of todays TW games you can get some good info on TW scripting at a few places...First i would start at Nav haz and Read the TW Cabal pages http://www.navhaz.com/....Then also look at TW Proxy a FREE scripting program.
http://www.twxproxy.com/ and then u can actually get most of the scripts you need from the Grimey Traders Script Bank http://www.grimytrader.com/

Good luck if you need any help please contact anyone here for help.

You can host your own game on an existing server by asking that sysop to host it for you, You could buy the twgs and tw codes from EIS to host your own server, altho there are really too many servers out there that don't have a lot of players at the present time. As far as scripting skills, you don't have to have any skills at all if you want to use the existing scripts that are currentely available on several Tradewars websites. I'm sure if you want further information or specific website information to get started, just ask and you will get help.

Welcome aboard, I only play on a few servers and personally for a new players Ice 9 has some good building games that players will help you out to get in the swing of things. Personally I like the chat in the game but once you get in the game a little then start reaching out to other places and join in a few other games.

Just remember not to take it to personal when you get SD, most will warn you and help you understand that you may be in over your head. But as with any game there are those that will rail you for no reason.

Start Slow and work up you will then learn the ins and outs and end up being a long term players instead of a 5 minute wonder.

To follow up on what T0y stated, you will get podded and ship destroyed and that is part of the game. Do not cuss out the player that did it or he\she will make a point of making life miserable for a new player. If you ask how they did it they (the better players anyway) will tell you what you did and how they podded you. If you are SD (#ship destroyed#) you will have to wait until the next day to enter the game to find out.

Things not to do:
In a non-truce game or where planets do not go mobile before truce end - do not build your base next to fed space (1-10 and stardock). I see a lot of players do that only to lose everything very quickly.

Don't sit in fed when not fed safe (either negative alignment or a positive alignment and 1,000 or more experience points).

Things to do:

Scrub for limpets at dock, 1, or another class 0 port before going to your base.

If you are going to hit an enemy fighter - macro kill it ($bm xyzsector * at999*<) where xyzsector is the sector number to move to. Sometimes you will still eat a photon, but this lessens the chance.

Scrub for limpets at dock, 1, or another class 0 port before going to your base.

Scrub for limpets at dock, 1, or another class 0 port before going to your base.

And finally: Scrub for limpets at dock, 1, or another class 0 port before going to your base. As in real life, you never want to take anything home you shouldn't.

Did he say scrub for limpits? :) Anyway, that is a great rule allways allways follow it.

Start in a turns game, and work with a corp, A simple "Hey Im newish and really want to learn the game, could you help me and put me on your corp?" some times it works some times it doesnt. Never-Ever-Ever backstab a corp, if you are new and you backstab someone, you will never live it down. Oh and all ways be a good corpie.

Also do not move with out twarping or mowing, it really helps you not get killed as oftern.

And the most important rule; HAVE FUN!

Kane forgot to mention to scrub for limps...

OH OH here is a fun one...
ALWAYS try to capture and enemy ship not completely destroy unless you know for a fact they aren't loaded full of carbs.

Carb buffets are filling in all the wrong ways!

Well thank you all for the good advise. 8)
I've been reading quite a lot and I'm unsure to understand what the ZTM does.
Do you actually move in the universe or does it fetch the information for you ?

I'm going to try to start some script tonight :P see how it goes.
I believe I'll be back eventually with more questions once I've tried more strategy. ^^

A ZTM maps the universe using 0 turns (Zero Turn Map). It basically plots courses to each sector in the universe using either computer mode or interrogation mode. ZTM scripting is not a simple process if you are going for accuracy although on the outside it looks like it would be. The good thing is there are several ZTM scripts that will do this for you that are publicly available.

You actually are moving through the universe, either one sector at a time or by transwarping to a distant sector that you have a fighter in. No fighter in a sector could cause you to fuse (blow up) if you tWarp to it. Blind warping can be done, but only it you are certain there is nothing in the sector for the "your ship has materialized in a solid mass" or words to that effect.
