Ok, looks like I've been promoted to a moderator for this Open Discussion thread.  I'd like some help from all of you.
I beleive the new admin here, SG and Vulcan, are trying to make a move to give all the players here what they want, and are attempting to listen to the players wishes.
With that in mind I'd like to know from you guys, what do you deem acceptable, and what's not, and how should it be dealt with.
My thinking is this.  There are topics for certain things, case in point in the recent history is promoting a new board.  I'd at least start by posting in the advertisements, but would mention of it here be out of line? (I'm not going to go against admin here, I'm just making an example)
I think if things are to get personal between two players or a group of them, it belongs in the smack thread if we can keep that thread active.  If things get personal, My feeling is lock the thread, and move the smack to the smack thread. But I'm open to suggestions on how offences should be dealt with here. 
Post your ideas here, what's acceptable or not, and how do we deal with offences.
Once we get a list, I'll compile a set of rules and actions, and post them here for all to see and admin to approve.  Then I as a moderator will try to follow those rules so there will be no questions.

I hope we can all make this work, and look forward to working with not only the admin here, but all the players as well.  I've had issues here, but I'm going to give things a try, and put the past behind me.  Hope you can all do the same.  This is still an active forum, and there's lots of data here I'd hate to loose.  But there are also lots of other forums out there as well.  I frequent many of those and see no reason we can't have multiple forums we all frequent.  There is no reason we need to compete.
 
 

Congrats RP.  I'm not going to post anything good, bad, or ugly.  I will suggest one thing tho.  You might want to get some huge air bags under the stern, because raising the Titanic will take some thrust. lol Good Luck and all you can do is the best you can with what you have to work with.

First is to get rid of the paranoia. Somone posting a notice about a new forum site is not reason to get bent out of shape. "OMG - it is in the wrong forum thread - kill the offender." That is the type of reaction that drives people away - esp in a public post.

One of the basic rules of management is to praise in public, counsel in private. The practice here appears to be to chastise the user in a public forum - the result is a flame war. The "if you do this, I'm going to do that" is pure garbage.

If someone "attacks" me verbally in the forum, then I will respond in kind. If you send the issue in a private message, the response may be different - at least all will not see the flame war if one develops.

To sum up my disjointed post - treat the users with respect and just maybe users will follow suit.

Personally I follow this as well cause I do management for the company I work for now, and know the value of being respectful of the person.

I had a chat with SG on this topic.  I'm not going to remove a post just because it mentions another site.  If it was an ongoing thing, where it keeps coming up in thread after thread that's another issue, but a causal mention is not a threat, and should be welcomed.
I will also not be debating things with SG in public forums.  If we disagree we will work it out in private, then if needed post the results.  Once we reach an agreement, that will be the decision, end of discussion.  I have to remember he's the boss, but I have to try to keep up with the heartbeat of the communitee also.

Are you saying that users here may not mention another forum at all ? Or advertise lets say in their signature about a site that they Moderate/Admin somewhere else?

I'm saying it's allowed.  Only if someone starts trying to spam every thread with their forum info, will I feel I have to step in. 

I am still waiting for a set of written rules, so you won't have to guess what to do.
