Big D posted: My server is on Verizon DSL, that might scare some right off the bat. But anyway, It's also a new server. I've had it going for about 3 weeks now. It seems to be doing ok with the exception of about 6 drops from Verizon over that 3 week period. The most I have had online at 1 time is 15 nodes that I have seen. I have it set at 30 at the moment. I will raise it to 50 before Saturday. The question I'm asking is IF, since we did have such a big turnout, do the players feel that ie would be better have the game on an established server? I mean I have no problem with sending the game file to someone with a faster and tested server. Also, I am gone for sometimes 3 days at a time, so if it is on my server, I need someone that is reliable that can telnet into the admin port and maybe fix any problems if I'm not available. This has to be someone NOT in the game and that everyone will trust, including me. Think it over and post your opinions. Thanks, BigD, for posting the corps listings. It looks good. After viewing Prom's post of the script w/ some in the middle of it, and some of my own cut and pastes in here, yes, I'd say the forum has some formatting problems with cut & paste. As for using your server, we have several sysops playing in this game, so I don't know who else's server we could use other than yours or Slimer's. Rat (Alien Base), Vulcan (Vulcan's Forge), Runaway Proton (Runaway Proton) and Rev (therev.org) are all playing in the game, so they are not good candidates for this round. I have played at UTW, Ice9, Black Sun, Bethel's server and Kitapoint recently, those are some options if those sysops want to voluneer. I think that having someone around to reboot in case of server crashes or lag or whatever is important. Few things are more frustrating than waiting for a server to come back up when u know u are sitting in your ship somewhere where you'd rather not be sitting over night and expect not to be alive when you get back to the keys. |

Snow I agree with having someone around to reboot just in case of problems like that, and it is a scarry thought not knowing if you are live or poof, lmao. |
