I wish this forum supported polls, but we can do it the old fasioned way. I just completed my ranking system on my forums. Being a Navy Vet, I used official US Navy ranks. However, It seems two of my posters are rather uncomfortable the the rank of "Seaman" (have to say I wasn't a fan in real life either) so they have started a campain to get past the rank. I have to commend them, they arn't just padding their count, they are adding some good content, and it's rather amusing to read! Poll is: Should I honor these guys wishes, and change my rank name, or should I let them suffer through it. I offered to change it to "Seaman Recurit" but they didn't like that any better. It's only 50 posts to "Petty Officer" |

Are you also using officer ranks or only enlisted? Some other considerations: Recruit, Ricky Recruit, Cadet, Midshipman, Yeoman (just because they are little kiss up ***** asses!). Seaman and all is really only applicable for the Seamanship Apprentice program, there are also Fireman and Airman titles at that rank for those programs as well. |

Since I'm also a Navy Vet (1967-1971) I would keep the Seaman rank. After all, that's just 1 step below Petty Officer 3rd Class. Let them work through it. |

I usually would point out how Army > Navy, but I shall hold that in If it's only 50 posts to get to the next rank, they'll live. If they care enough to know what their rank is, then they'll post enough that they won't be that rank long enough. Also, they should respect the people who have held that rank in the past, present, and future in the Navy and get past the fact that when you say the rank out loud it could be mistaken as.. well, a bodily fluid. |

HA HA! An ally of mine in a game is ranked "Rear Admiral" at around 800k experience. Makes for some interesting FedCom conversations. I say let them suffer through! |

If you are doing it that way I would go with either Cadet, Midshipman, or Recruit. |

Rexx I think he has the ranks he needs for the theme, unless he wants to put the full rank system on the site, starting with Seaman Recruit, which is really the first rank most start with in the Navy, heh, yes I am a Navy man myself as well. laff. And to answer the Pollywog and Shellback issue, tha Parrot brought up, one has to be a wog first before he becomes a Honored Shellback. This is for those who don't know. |
