Hello Everyone This is Zentock, i have started a Team to process SETI data.

This will be done as a screensaver. heres the url to get the starter program.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/

After you dl, and install it. please join my team, it is called
The Noble Knights of Tradewars 2002

My goal is twofold,
1- to help Seti,
2- to see how many tradewars players we can get into this project.

I thank you for your attention , and your support

Well, that leaves Sing out - he is never AFK long enough for a screensaver to start.

Sounds good though. I've ran SETI a couple of years ago.

Geat idea. I joined your team. Seems we cant bring along Classic credits from the original SETI unfortunately, or maybe I just cant figure out how.

I got quite a credit bank worked up there, then moved on to a couple new projects.

I joined. dont know if it shows or not. Got like 29k done or whatever.

In regards to Old Units Kav, they dont count towards the Unit count for the new Seti.

welcome to the team daytripper!

may it be the tradewarriors who find the aliens,
that would just be way to wild.

What is SETI and who is this OMOTw clown?

OMOTW is some dried up hack of a twarrior who continues to bs zen about some stupid 80 day unlim.

SETI is the Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence program, started waaay back in like '96 or '97 to search the skies for any sign of a transmission from alien species.

Both are over-publicized and useless in my opinion.

SETI's been around since WAY before 96. 1984 to be exact.

I always wondered about that SETI, is this just really a scam to gain popularity for space related programs? It would seem to me that the time it takes to upload/download this information back and forth and for the uploaded/compiled information that you send them back to be analyzed by their servers, that their servers could have been long finished it already.

Not to mention that it is highly doubtful that the government (any government0 would allow public pre-access to the potential evidence of EBE; whether or not the information is highly encrypted or not, and which if so would add even more time the analyzing process. Also, taking account at the start of this program the slow transfer speeds of dial-ups. I think that this thing is just a huge waste of grant and whatever other type of monies they abuse to keep this thing running. To end if we ever do make contact with other planets, this is not going to be the way that it takes place, if it were it would have happened long ago.

Well there's a common misconception about this stuff.

Finding proof of alien life... ISN'T EASY.

You see a lot of signals sound the same and it's easy to get false positives when we live on a planet that sends so much radio. So in order to really scan for signals you have to scan a tiny tiny narrow area of space at a time. It can take months to just do a fraction of 1 degree. Then there's processing time... crunching all that data. That's what the @home project is for.

To make matters worse radio takes a while to develop. We weren't using radio 200 years ago. It's a fairly recent development. And I have to say that as far as development goes, our signals are getting more distributed and less powerful. It's conceivable that in 500 years we won't even use radio signals at all... or if we do, they won't be in a form we'd recognize today.

So what does that bring us to? We have to be scanning space at just the right time to catch a usable signal, one that isn't just local earth noise or one that's not some far away pulsar. The odds of us finding the right area at the right time is tiny... like finding a very small needle in a very BIG haystack. A haystack the size of the universe.

The potential would be huge, of course, as it would allow us to peer into an alien civilization. It might bring some pretty profound changes to religion and society as a whole. Might provide insights into technology far beyond our understanding. But that doesn't mean we'd be able to communicate w/ them or ever visit them.

A planet 100 light years away would take 200 years for a return signal. That's some serious lag. Not much use, really, atleast not in our life time. The time required to even decode and translate such a signal would probably more than double that. We have people that have been studying earth-based languages for hundreds of years, with an entire culture to study from (sumarian, egyptian, etc) and they still haven't managed to master those languages yet.

It's not easy. Definately not easy.

Is it worth the money? Sure. Just because there isn't an immediate ROI doesn't mean it's not worth doing. All research, all progress, takes a lot of investment before money comes in... and that money almost never goes back to the investor. But if we ever DID find someone out there... just imagine what it would mean. Not just for one nation, not just one group of people, but for our perception of humanity and it's place in the universe.

That was very inspiring Sing, hehe

Although, I don't see much point in the need to look for
aliens elsewhere, especially since we already have enough people on are own
planet that seem to be living in their own little schizo-psycho world. Really
though if there were aliens that had any intelligence within their minds, they
would do everything in their power to avoid this floating sest pool at all
costs! Also, I have seen some interesting documentaries involving science panel prospectives and they have some radial views on what could potentially be expected not only in other galaxies and such but here on Earth as well; dealing with chaos theory, time/space, parallel and altered dimensions, also about string theory (quantum theory), how radiation/UV light, magnetic polarities, terrain, gravities, planetary speed, temperatures, etc., would effect other potential life on galaxies, also I recall something having to do with a theory on the center of the universe, what black holes could really be, something about reading the number comets/asteroids on the outer edge of each universe is a telltale sign of a universe's age. To many cool things out there, I ony wish I was smarter, should have paid attention in school.
