I've written a piece on how to get started in this game, might already be things like this out there but I've found few that include links to sites that still work. If you're trying to get started in the game, I've tried to include links to popular software, and sites, to get you going. You can view it on my site at vulcansforge-online.net:99/RunawayProton/viewtopic.php?t=41
Read it, and if you have any suggestions to make it easier, feel free to correct me or post your own. I'm no expert. Just trying to help those looking to play with what (limited) knowledge I have.

During HHT I was trying to train a handful of returning players.

Made this:

Might give you some additional inspiration.

It's a good piece of work Sing. I find that the info you put in your tutorial gives a good picture of what to expect, what the different dynamics involved in the game are. It is a value to the Academy. Some of our visitors have e-mailed me to say they like the content and found it very helpful.

RP, your article is also good info. A lot of people that are starting out like the concept of the game, but don't know how to start out. With your info, and Sing's, you make it clearer to the steps needed to play and become effective.

Regards.

I have not read the articles, but I do hope you emphasize that just because someone has a "good" alignment doesn't mean that they won't attack another "good".

I've been called a few choice names because I was playing as a blue and popped some players. One of the very mild things was that I was "just plain evil" and should not have a "good" alignment.

Also, please address the "I have a commish, you can't attack me in Fed! You cheated!" Sorry, but I can, will, did and no cheating involved.

The above scenarios happen and then it turns into a "teaching" game most of the time. Depends on the reaction of the other players after they calm down a bit.

I really didnt' get involved in tactics yet, mostly how to set up and where to find the various softwares now needed to play the game, and also point to some of the more popular TW forums to get gears turning. I hope in the future to maybe get into a little bit of tactics, but I have to learn them first. Sofar I can teach new players how to convert a basic ship into a pod 101 different ways.

I just read this, and it's excellent. Would you post this at my site, or mind if I link to it in my forum. Would be a nice addition.

Alignment determines whether you will be red or blue. Alignment in the negative means you are evil, can rob ports, etc. Alignment in the positive means you are blue, can transwarp to FedSpace (over 1k align I believe), and can get a Fed Commission, etc. That's just a short explanation of it. There are pros and cons to playing either red or blue, and either side has certain things that benefit that alignment.

Runaway Proton's TWGS, Vulcan's Forge TWGS, Darkstarbase, theReverends, Vid Kid's off the top of my head.

You can always check the following for servers:

http://www.thestardock.com/twgssearch/allservers.php

and of course soon Jumpgate here will have all the servers listed.

Also Thrawn is to timid to mention his TW Academy at http://www.outpost-4.com/tradewars/ is a good place to learn game skills and play games. I also have a game with No Death Delay so you can play, learn and attack others, and if you get blown up in the process, you don't have to wait a day to get back in and try again.

It is helpful. These guides and others can be found there, as well as TradeWars Academy, a site dedicated to teaching new players and returning vets. The url for that if you are interested is:

Yea, Traitor's stuff at TW-Cabal is very good for new players. Especially the glossary. Unfortunately it will be going down very soon, but we do have a mirror ready.

Glossary mirror:

RP, You can use the tutorial if you want, just keep the credit info at the top and stuff. A link back to the article might be useful too as I do make small changes here and there.

-100 or lower can steal. 1000+ can twarp to fed. But which way to go depends on your corp, your skills, the edit, pretty much everything.
