From what I've seen over the years, people who dupe are just above T-editing sysops on the slime scale. |

Using a BOT is only duping if the same person or persons is also the sole creator/user of the actual player accounts. Otherwise, using a BOT is nothing less then player innovation and creating a BOT is nothing less then refined innovation at it's peak! [;)] grammar error. |

Laff. I think duping is over stated. No decent player dupes. If you create 3 corpies then that's clearly duping. If someone else not only creates them but voluntarily runs a bot script on their computer, that's not duping. It's close, but isn't exactly the same. You get limited access to their account as long as they permit it. It's all semantics really, odds are we'll never reach a perfectly acceptible definition for everyone. Why's it really matter? Rules get bent all the time. Megarob was a bug, now it's a "cashing technique." Stuff we disagree with today might become tommorow's cherished tactic. |

[;)] So using this approach, one simply has someone who knows nothing about TradeWars log into a game, say my neighbor from another IP, fires up a bot that I control and I am good to go. I did not create the account and the IP does not belong to me. The neighbor also used the account since he/she logged into the game and fired the bot up so that eliminates me as the sole user. I would be the primary user, but technically, not the sole user. Seems like there was a proxy that was being designed that would basically allow the same thing only giving more control to the corpie that was "botting" the other player. I don't remember the name of it or who was writing it. |

My feeling is that if a player creates a character only for the purpose of running a bot for another corpie, that's wrong. If you play the game, and leave a bot running to help another corpie once in a while, I'd accept that. |

Though then you would actually be the “sole user” of that account, hence it was only created for your benefit (besides the friend gaining favor from you within the both of yours friendship), and use as your friend has no actual intention to enjoy the game. Or better a question better still, should an account or accounts created for you by another on either the same or even a different IP, be considered duping? I for one say Yes sir! |

I guess there is a new word and catagory now called "Creative Dupeing" I love these kinds of posts, it clearly shows what side of the ethics fence players are on. [V] |

You mean we are actually supposed to enjoy this game? I thought it was something I just got addicted to and can't quit. Kinda like smoking only a lot more benign. |

Laff. Give me a break... there's no such thing as "ethics" in a freaking video game. I assume none of you ever megarob or grid with a script or run world cashing scripts either, as at one point they were all considered "unethical" too. Hop off the high horse, it's just too whiney. If you get a neighbor to log in and make an account for you, fine. You don't get some magical advantage by doing that, all you get is a bot. If I get a player that actually plays then guess who's screwed? No bot can take the place of a real player. If you have bots that play as well or better than your corpies then guess what... your corpies suck. If your bot plays as well as you do, then guess what... you suck. About the only real use for a bot is for mundane tasks. Buying crap down. Running defense and saveme scripts. Perhaps colonizing. The rest get exponentially more complex. |
