There are different games set up, beginners to advanced players. Concepts and dynamics are similar to TradeWars. I find it a nice change from the ansi scrolling, and also works as a good tool to teach new players about TradeWars. |

How is it different from TW other than graphics? Strong player base? Easy to play w/o "addons" like helpers and scripts? |

The game is quite structured with the GUI interface. Navigation to each star (galaxy) and you will find planets in orbit. Some of these galaxies have a port. From what I have seen the ports have products which you can buy/sell at other ports. Similar to TradeWars, except more product. Concept of Red/Blue exist, ranks, etc. Same with the ships. You have a ship and you can buy components for it to make it stronger. As far as a strong player base, I could not say for certain whether it is strong or not. I have only played in a few games since the beginning of the year. Some games seem to have quite a few players, and some do not. It looks as if there are a variety of games for different flavors: new player games right to those that are very experienced. As far as actual playing, I found it easy. It has a tutorial that takes you through different concepts, similar to StarFleet Command. I liked it, and that was the starter to my idea to create TradeWars Academy. As far as any scripts or add-ons, I am not familiar with anything you need. All you download is the game client and it connects to the StarPort server. I would never say this game is better than TradeWars, or vice versa. I use this game to learn what I need to cover and accomplish with my TradeWars Academy. For those that like a nice graphical interface, the game is good. I've also directed new players to try it and then they come to TradeWars with a better concept of the dynamics. |

I prefer the helpers and addons... that's pretty much why I play. Out of the box games get boring pretty quickly. Stopped playing vgap because of that. Is there any way to play the game outside of the GUI? |

Is there any way to play the game outside of the GUI? No unfortunately not. you use the gui client. And I host VGAP and can see what you mean. Our player base has dropped over the years. The out of the box games do get boring. At least with TradeWars there is always something to create, some script to perfect, etc. I find there is much to learn, and always something new to create. The advantage of TradeWars is you can play with or without helper, telnet or java telnet via a browser. |
