Hey Y'all. I recently started getting back into TW after a 5 year hiatus. However, I'm having a problem finding the type of games that I enjoy playing in. I can throw a handful of rocks and hit a handful of unlimited games or games that are edited so much, they might as well be unlimited. The few games that I have found that are "old school" have no other active players, so there is really no point. I really hope that I've just been stumbling across really small boards, with the exception of Outpost-4 (I see that there are a few of the types of games I'd like to play on that board, but all the "classic" games are already 2-3 months into play). I would really like to find a board (or a couple of boards) that have decent, classic games. If I have to, I will wait for a re-bang and just "practice" on the empty boards until I can find one, but can anyone point me in the right direction to where a game may be or may develop? This isn't meant to start a debate about Limited/Unlimited turns or an Edited/Unedited games or anything. I've played in all of the above before. I've just come to the conclusion that for myself, I have more fun in unedited games and unlimited turns cause me to ignore the rest of my life. Killian |

As a SysOp, we try to host games that will meet the interest level. Sometimes we miss a few, but we adapt. My hardest time as a SysOp is a rebang schedule. We tried a time limit (ex: unlimited on a 2-3 month schedule, etc), but it did not work. And with my career, it is hard to do that. So I set my system to rebang a game when players post in the forum on our site, or the TWGS ScoreKeeper finds a game has not been accessed for a week solid. That is the best we found for us. Hopefully the games still will meet the expectations. |

Second, being a players thats been around more off then on sinc 1993 on bbs's, and 1995 on the net play... i've seen the trends change from stock, to modified stock, to 2,000 turns to, 50,000 turns, and now mostly unlimiteds. The majority of what your gonna find unfortunatly are unlimited turn or high turn games [i myself refuse to play anything over 5k turns and prefer 1500 or less]. The low turn games you do find good luck finding decent competition. You can find them but there few and far between. Most days i do a basic search for games banged in the last 3 days on stardocks search 90% are unlim's, 5% 20k turns or more, and maybe 1 if yer lucky is under 2k turns with 2 players in it Try not to lose hope. Join some draft games, there normally full of good players you can corp with and learn with in low turn settings. |

Here's a question I'd like to ask players regarding game times. What is best for a game as far as a rebang schedule? We run 4 unlims, and the rest are ranging from 25k turns down to 700 turns. I have posted on the site to post a message when a game needs a reset, yet I hate to leave a game sit stale for too long. Then there is the players schedule, where they may be away and a reset occurs. So I'm looking for some ideas for creating a rebang schedule to keep games cycled at a good rate. Suggestions? |
