I have always heard that the steal to bust ratio was approximately 50:1 so I ran a little test to see how accurate that was.

I modified a steal script I use to count the number of steals it was making per bust and the data verified the ratio more or less.

I ran the script until I busted 71 times since I seem to remember from the statistics class something about a minimum of 30 samples.

Steals: 4035
Busts: 71
Ratio: 56.8:1

Cash: 110,385,902 (gross) or 27,357 per steal (225 and 200 holds)
Cash: 102,749,070 (net) or 25,464 per steal, and 1,447,170 per run avg

Port upgrades, ship holds and fighters @ 1 per sector cost: 7,636,832

------------
At 100 busts from the same run above:

Steals: 6092
Busts: 100
Ratio: 60.9:1

Yes, I am bored at 4 AM............

Laff. One of the problems w/ this is that it seems bust ratios change based on several different daily (hourly, whatever) factors. Some days you just hardly bust, other days you bust like mad. Run the test over multiple weeks over thousands of busts (law of large numbers and all that). Be interesting to plot the results day by day.

True and you can see the busts sometimes come in bunchs and then other times you make 10M - 20M on a single cashing run. The test I ran kind of shows that with the two different bust ratios. I had a few good runs between 71 and 100 busts that changed the ratio.

As you and Traitor suggested, I need to run it for a longer period of time, but this was done in an active game. I will set it up on my server to eliminate the ping times this game had and see what it does. The ping in that game was over 200, but ping times are another issue - used to be in the 160-180 range and now over 200 on most servers for me.
