My dedicated TWGS is on a router, it's a linksys 2.4 wireless G, the server is of course hardwired....
the machine ip is not reconized by TWGS, at least it says it can't startup, but using the router IP, it will startup, but nobody can connect (kinda cheesy)
My question is: will pointing a domain to that machine solve the problem ? and part 2 : how do I point a domain to that machine?
Thanks
me and loc wanna kick eachothers asses, but we cant

I'm confused here. You say it's ON a router... I assume you mean behind a router. Now, when you say it won't start up, what error are you getting? I leave my IP setting to auto on my TWGS and it works fine. If you do have to manually set it, try setting it to the internal network IP of you machine. Regardless of what you do, you will have to route incoming connections on whichever port you decide to use to that machine. I am not really a networking guru (does that mean I'm not qualified to be a moderator? ), but some more info might be helpful.

Your freakin fired!
Yeah, behind a router, on a router, same thing... (no, I put the box on the linksys and prayed it would work... ) it just says it can't initiate and it'll keep tryin every 30 seconds... when I set it for auto, it just uses the ip the router assigns...
okay, so who can tell me how to configure the ports?

Grazhoppa, have you tried specifying the IP address of the machine?
I have mine running on a wireless laptop and I specified the IP address of the server. That way, no matter what my router tells me, I'm good. As for the domain name, you would need to link that to your external IP address (whatever your ISP gives you) and then use port forwarding on your router to make sure that everything that comes in from port 2002 or 23 or whatever one you use will go to your server box. There's a nifty app that you can download that will automatically update your domain with your external IP. I registered and dyndns.org for a freee domain name. That's where I'd recommend going.
But that won't help you if you can't get your internal IP to route properly. So try setting it to a static address and go from there. Let me know if that works, and we'll go from there. If you want me to talk you through any of it, PM me and I'll give you my MSN IM address.

Graz, get an account here:
http://www.dyndns.org/
Then get one of their Dynamic DNS update clients to update your IP.
I think the local network address of a Linksys Router is usually 192.168.0.1 try going to:
http://192.168.0.1/
Enter "Admin" for the user name and the password you used for the first time you set up the router.
Pick a static IP for your server, like 192.168.0.13 or something and change the TCP/IP on the server to use that IP. Check the Status page on your router web server before you change the server IP to see what DNS and Gateway to use for your server, because you won't be using DHCP any more and it won't fill them in for you.
Click on "Advanced" on the Linksys router.
Click on "Port Forwarding"
Enter your IP:
192.168.0.13
and the port:
23 or 2002 or whatever TWGS is set to.
Click save or apply and let the router reset itself.
Change the IP on the TWGS server machine to the static IP, static DNS setting, and static Gateway, use a Netmask of 255.255.0.0 or 255.255.255.0
Register an account on http://www.dyndns.org/
Get grazhoppa.homelinux.com or some other freebie subdomain.
Download one of their clients to update your Dynamic IP to grazhoppa.homelinux.com or whatever subdomain you picked. Install it, set it up, leave it running in the background.
DYNDNS.ORG used to be free, they might charge for their services now, but I think it is a small fee. DirectUpdate is the client I use and registered ($35USD IIRC) to update my DSL Dynamic IP for my fourm.
I use a Linksys Router too, only a class B wireless because I could not afford a class G. They should be the same.
Good luck.
P.S. Any software firewall will have to be configured to allow TWGS to use those ports as well. If you use Windows XP SP2 configure that built-in software firewall for TWGS. I got a feeling that you have both BlackIce and Windows Firewall blocking your TWGS access. Just a wild-arse guess. [:)]

I’m not sure what error message your getting but here are a few things you should check.
Can you telnet to the twgs locally 127.0.0.1:2002 change the part behind the colon to the port number you have set in the twgs.
Have you set up port forwarding on the router?
Do you have windows firewall running or another firewall running if so you need to open up the ports in the firewall to allow connections to the twgs.

Speed, it's a port issue, and I think that orion might have given the info I needed for that (Orion for moderator!!! kemper is still fired!) ... The machine is on win2k (not xp, I hate xp but use it on my laptop) and is not using blackice (hence the nice router)
okay, so after I soak all that in, I'll try it orion, I'm sure it will work, thanks tons!

Also, is the port in use?
get the to command prompt (Start->Run then type command or cmd) depending on windows version.
then type netstat -a
This shows all ports in use and who is using them. If TWGS starts up and the configured port is in use, it throws an error.
earth.

Okay, well... The port forwarding doesn't specify telnet, just UDP and PDU or whatever... the port is actually 192.168.1.1 (which is cool) but, unless I allow ALL access to that particular PC, it looks like I can't do it...
o.0 should I just open it up?

Congrats.
I cannot be a moderator here, hardly anyone gets my jokes. The other moderators are way too serious anyway. Yet I have tons of technical computer knowledge. I can be a one-man IT department as I wore many hats in the IT industry. I'll leave the Tradewars questions to the Gurus.
Yes I have experience with SNITZ and I did run some SNITZ forums, but switched over to PHPBB2. I ran out of hard drive space for my Linux server and I hope to get a new hard drive for Christmas. So my Linux server is down until I can install a new hard drive, sitting under my Christmas tree for Dec 25th. [:)]
Besides I suffer from many physical and mental illnesses. Like depression, schizoaffective disorder, stress disorders, anxieties, memory problems, MPD, Asperger's Syndrome, high blood pressure, high chloerestral, bad colon, bad stomach, and I recently had knee and heart surgery, and I am suffering from some complications from those surgeries. Because of all of that, everyone discriminates against me. My dry and dark sense of humor is the only thing that helps me cope and keeps me alive, and nobody here really gets my humor.
