Even corporations that you work for limit your freedom of speech - divulging corp proprietary information or certain other things that you could get away with in normal conversation can land you in hot water with the boss.
A case in point were the remarks made by an assistant fire chief. His remarks would not have caused him any problem under normal circumstances, however since he used his title/city under his name - he lost his job. Could he fight it, maybe, but he decided not to and was reinstated as a captain a year later. If he had fought it and lost, he would have lost his career with that department.
A second case involved a fire captain that made some remarks to a female clerk at a conveinance <sp> store before going on-duty. Normally those remarks would not have been considered nothing more than rude/crude, however since his badge was visible, he was viewed as being a representative of the department. He received a 3 day suspension.
(Even though I was in the FD for longer than most of the players on here are old, neither of the above was me).
The point for robertc is his internet free speech was not violated even though the sysOps actions may or may not have been warranted. The server is a private server, and as such, the rules for these servers are generally accepted as being set by the sysOps. If we do not like those rules, we simply do not play there. If we feel the server is not run ethically, we run like hell from them.
Bottom line robertc: Don't worry about what happened, and find a server you like and don't let me hit you with a ptorp and SD you again.
